So this has been rumbling through my head for a while:
Converting the D20 system and bits of the SRD to run as a skirmish game.
Has anyone done this? Or am I going to have to knuckle down and do it myself?
Here's what'd probably have to be done:
Pre-calculate various Race/Class combos at various levels and alignments, as well as build simplified Feat and Spell lists for various levels.
Simplify/pre-calculate monster stats and build a varied and balanced list. (probably the most complex task)
Simplify combat, i.e. no surprise round (depending, I could see having a small dungeon scenario with small groups running around and surprising one another) and probably some form of group initiative.
Build item cards for equipping your forces.
You'd build small forces, and duke it out using nearly the full D20 rules, so jamming doors, dodging around pillars, climbing cliff faces, looting your enemies corpses, and running one of your goblins into the middle of an enemy stronghold and then having him put a portable hole into a bag of holding, are all completely possible.
(I assume no liability if you actually try this in one of your campaigns)
Goddamit, now I want to play this really badly.
