I've been an airplane freak since age 8 when I saw "The Dam-Busters" on TV. For decades I've read books, built models ands watched shows about aviation. Now it's time to do it FOR REALS. A "Rec" license will allow me to putter around in VFR conditions. Funds are limited, so I'm guessing this will take a LONG time. I have a copy of MS FlightSim 2004 and I'm working on the flying lessons therein. It's a start! |

Great Paul, just be careful. I want more stuff created by your hand. My dad was a US Airforce Pilot and then worked for the Airlines. I can see the attraction. Have fun with that and keep us posted. CCotD' |

There's a flight school near me, in Qualicum Beach, unless the CRANKY OLD PEOPLE get it shut down. No worries on safety, the wife is already bugging me about that. I actually "soloed" last night in MS flight sim. I sure have learned a lot about flying, been flying 'yank and bank' military sims for years and this training will make me a better combat pilot for sure. |

My neighbour has a pilots license and was telling me recently about taking out a tiny plane with his boss. While a flight sim will help a bit, it's not going to compare to getting thrown all over the place in a tiny metal box. I couldn't do it, but I can see the attraction to being able to explore from the sky. Good luck with the project... and maybe we'll see Mayhem Airstrip/Hangers from you soon? Arabin |

You're gonna love it Paul, seriously love it. You sound like me with a lifelong love of aviation, though I took it a step further by getting a Degree in Aerospace Engineering. If you do end up enjoying flying around, I really, really suggest you have a go at other forms of flying as well. Helicopters are a bit tricky but you really get a feeling of accomplishment when you finally get control the beasts, and Gliding is the closest thing to experiencing freedom like the birds. Although I never had the funds to get or keep a Pilot's License, I did manage to get a couple of hundred hours in Chipmunks, Bulldogs, Gliders and Robinson Helis thanks to my time in the Air Cadets and my Degree course. You're gonna love it mate. ![]() |
