Picking up my weekly copy of 2000AD yesterday and I noticed GW's White Dwarf magazine. Haven't bought it for ages (it's too expensive and there's nothing I want to read in it anyway). On the front they had 2 "Free" Mighty Empires tiles. They've gone all plastic and molded and you have to paint them. A far cry from the card hexes I used to play with.

Any one played the new version? I loved that game back in the day (I think i've still got it in the loft actually).

WHen I got into WFB this game was dead. I really wanted it at the time. Now days I don't play GW and my WFB armies are stored.... not that I really like the idea of having every chap in a formation, you paint every figure only to have it become a rank and file which has no really impact on the game only too add up numbers.

But looking at this I must say I'm a tad interested, if only for the tiles. If the box and tiles work as a game unto itself this might be very good. I like games like Birthright and Mass conflicts.

Then again if anyone can suggest a system that might do this (controlling cities, armies and resources) it would be great. Also if anyone knows of pdf map tiles that might take the same form as Mighty Empires please PM me.... as it might be a conflict of interest to WWG.

I looked at these "tiles" in the store the other day, both painted and unpainted - end result is sub-par. The tiles themselves are IMO a little small, esp. if you have troop movements showing. The actual textures are what really let this produce down. You can almost see the modeling sand/texture putty used to create the feel of trees, grass, sand - what ever you paint the tile. The structures themselves - the ones you add to the tile are almost deformed looking. Which is a really sad fact as we live in an age of such casting and modeling technology that should surpass the work of the 1990 edition - but it doesn't.

End of the day I went from Hyped to see this product (I got in to Minis about 1992... about the same time as the first box game faded) and feel the might of armies shaking countries. Upon seeing them I gazed over what was to be mine with a bitter smile and walked out of the store knowing that investing (time) in Profantasy's mapping program CC3 I know I could kick ass.

Oh and the suckers are not painted... ok so I didn't expect this but at the same time the money and lack of detail... plus the fact that the expansion booklet is very lame just add up to the fact that GW's light (in my eyes) went out long ago.

Now could anyone please help me in makeing some hex tiles in CC3? I looked at Dundjinni but I feel that CC3 has a better scope. I would mount the printed hexes on Matte board (for picture hanging) and then add 2.5D cardstock structures when needed.
