Well, it's *REALLY* light, but there's a zombie game included in Shellendrak Manor (Zombie Manor). |

I've found wargamers often hate the character generation/development that comes with RPGs. Instead of wanting to mold a character to their particular interests (which a lot of RPG'ers find important), wargamers seem happy to be given a pre-made character, with some sound combat skills (treat special abilities/magic as heavy weapons, movement or special senses) and a small number of other, straight forward skills, and then just put them to use. They can get into character customisation/development when they're ready, the thing to do is to get them role playing first - you can always reward them with more money and better weapons, etc. as they go along. The original Traveller system did a great of this: roll the character through a military career and then use what you got as a result - generally some combat abilities and a couple of extra skills. If you can get your hands on a copy this could be a great way to go. Alternatively, you could take the same approach with a straight forward RPG system (e.g. Savage Worlds: premake some characters with reasonable stats/combat skills and then play with a simple set of skills/edges). |

I've found Savage Worlds to be very acceptable to the boardgame community!! Check out my battle reports on the , where you'll find die-hard boardgamers and CCGers exploring the wonders of Mayhem City and then pleading for more games afterwards!! |

I can't believe nobody mentioned GURPS Lite as an option yet, it's quick, as detailed as you want to make it, and it's a free download to boot! |

Did a first playtest run of SW, and one thing that ended up happening over and over is that you spend most of your time making shaken recovery rolls. Is that a correct impression or did something go wrong here? Also, I find it really hard to remember intuitively which suits trump which others in a deck of cards, which really removes the ease factor. I'll be making a deck of cards just labelled 1-52 plus two jokers. |

Teaflax- The ranking of the suits is easy. Clubs Diamonds Hearts Spades. The key is to remember it is alphabetical (CDHS)! Of course this is just from memory so I may be confusing it with something else. |

Savage Tip - to remember the suit order: Shane Hensley Despises Coffee. Originally it was Shane Hensley Drinks Coffee but we soon found out that he does not, in fact, drink coffee. ![]() |

I wish I could try out one of Shinobi's demos as I really can't imagine liking the whole playing cards instead of dice deal. It's interesting, but I LIKE rolling dice, even when they betray me. I don't like the betrayal, of course, but I still enjoyed the rolling. It's something I can't imagine buying into, but would be willing to try it sometime. Arabin |
