Post subject: | Bryce 5.5 Available Free |
Continuing with my on again, off again habit of posting links to free software that might be useful for gaming - is currently available for free. I do not know for how long. Bryce is a fairly venerable 3D graphics program, and one that has seen recent updates. I am likely to spring for the upgrade to version 6, at least after I putter for a bit with 5.5. The upgrade is currently about $20. I am mostly intending to use it for covers for adventures and setting material - just because. Anyone here have any experience with Bryce? The Auld Grump |

Sale on the upgrade to 6.1 ends soon - I was hoping that someone would tell me more about the program, but at the price I guess that I can take a chance.... I still have not found time to play with Bryce 5.5. The Auld Grump |

So, I never did try out Bryce 5.5 before upgrading to 6. ![]() Bryce 6 does seem like a good program, my order came with a coupon for a free tutorial, I opted for a city block tutorial. Though the interface is completely different it somehow reminds me of the editor for Morrowind. (Sad to say I used the editor for Morrowind more than I played the game itself, it just did not grab me - but the editor was a lot of fun). I am having fun with it, not producing anything like a masterpiece, and on my current computer rendering is ssllooww... but still faster than I expected. If I can get to the point where I actually think what I am making looks good then I may well end up getting some of the art packs for this, not a lot, but some of the packs that might fit what I am doing at the time. I think what I was expecting was a 3D modeler, rather this is a scene maker for the most part, many of the same functions, but the emphasis is entirely different. The Auld Grump |

It is worth mentioning that I have had to re-obtain the upgrades and model packs I purchased since I bought my new computer. Daz has given good service in that regards - I am pretty happy with them. They reactivated my downloads in less than a minute. ![]() The Auld Grump |
