I just have to share this, as it's the biggest thing ever for me, professionally. I'm a TV subtitler by trade. And through a series of unlikely events and some perseverance, I've been lucky enough to subtitle The Simpsons into Swedish for the last five years. I was just asked to do the movie. This is huge - it's like playing in the minors and being asked to pitch the World Series. I've just read the script, and it really is very good. Then again, I'm someone who thinks that the last three seasons of The Simpsons have been as good as their heyday, often better (with some minor exceptions). Al Jean is a great show runner. I can't give anything away about the script, but thankfully, it's not particularly pun-heavy (the bane of all translators). Anyways, I'm stoked, thrilled, ecstatic, pumped and any other word that describes an excited state. |

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words, folks. Yeah, I have spent a lot of time and effort on getting the Simpsons TV subtitles just right - much more than I get paid for - so I guess it finally paid off. As for the job, I'm lucky enough to subtitle 90% shows that I like (I do The Late Show four nights out of the week), so I tend to enjoy my work. And I love language, so it's just a lot of fun - if often very frustrating - to try to get a phrase just right. |

Congratulations! That's a great gig. It sounds like fun work, too. When will I get a chance to see the Swedish subtitled version, so I can see and evaluate the finer points of your efforts? (even though I don't speak or read Swedish). |
