I'm a bit confused (nothing new) but what is the "base" set of WoW? Are they all stand alone games or expansions?
If I wanted to start from scratch which box would I get?
Also, the minis look really great, but $12 a pop? hmmm, that's up there

Ok, I just picked up two of the 144th scale planes for this game... Pre-Paints. I don't own the game as of yet, but having been told the basics I flew my two models around. WOW this looks like a real fun game. here is a link for thoses who don't know about the game or the pre-paints.... GAME : MINIS : So....... Denny.... how about one of those slick game mats depicting the western front (aerial view) ..... That would just set this game off nicely... |

I've been watching this game since the 1st release. I've held off until Burning Drakens came out. Now I want some of the minis. But at those prices, I'll have to wait a bit... (not that they are too expensive I just don't have the money to throw at another set of minis). Would be nice if they were to get in the $5.00 to $6.00 range. Maybe Paul & Denny could come up with some nice buildable paper versions. And a mat, then we could just pick up the basic game for $20usd and use the WWG for all the props and terrain! |

Not a bad game, though the one I was playtesting for Hetzerdog (now sadly out of business, but I still play the rules *grin*) was much better. Nice minis, though I have a bunch of 1/144 models already in various states of painting. A WW1 and WW2 game mat would also be well appreciated by my good self. |

I'm a member of a WW1 airwar history forum called the Aerodrome, and one of the game authors is a regular member of the gaming part of that forum. He was so fascinated with our other minis game that he decided to give it a go, so if I understand correctly, he got his motivation to get miniatures out from seeing pictures of Aerodrome games and Canvas Eagles games with the different scales people use. And he wanted to make it easy for folks to open a box and start playing instead of having to be a model builder to get a nice looking model on the table. I've heard folks mention the Boargamegeek site, so thought I would mention - Angolilo, the author I am thinking of, posted a card for the game that could not be in the officially published game but you could always copy and paste to make your own card - Snoopy on his doghouse. If you go to Boardgamegeek and look for Wings at War, you can find that picture. Tom |

First game was Wings of War: Famous Aces, followed by Watch your Back, and then Burning Drakens. They are all stand-alone card games, and you can buy any one for a good game. They do add some as you go, new planes, new maneuvers, etc., and then the two expansions as well. The minis are just a new 3-D thing added to it. You can look on Ebay to find the boxed sets a bit below list price, but then when you add shipping you wont save much. At the local game store here, they run $29.95 for the boxed set. You can find other models from 1/300 to 1/48 if you want to build and paint your own, and prices will vary greatly, along with the time and trouble of assembling and painting your own. The minis are good for the price if you want to jump right in and start flying quickly. I'm a kit guy, so would probably just buy some kits. I have already jumped into 1/72 scale for Canvas Eagles some time ago and will probably stay with that, but building each kit takes the greater part of a day for me, sometimes 2 depending on the struts and number of decals. I could see spending $12-15 for something I didnt have to build. The kits I use are on ebay for around $5 each to start, so if I put a value on my time, it would be much higher. Tom |

It's probably a pretty good deal actually. It just jumps out at you 
I just learned a friend of mine picked it up so I can get to check it out. Not sure if he bought any of the planes though. On a side note I still have almost all of the Crimson Skies 'clix' planes from Wizkids. It appears at first glance that the movement at least is somewhat similar. I'm trying to get some folks to play some of that again. |

Those planes and pilots have been the only Clix purchases I ever made, and they quit supporting it just as I got to enjoy it. They look interesting. I have most of the sets, but never got around to all of them. |

You can use an actual aerial photo of the front... in fact there are not much changes in the terrain... That is what I used for the board of Dan Verssen's DownInFlames WWI and the results were good... you can get more area or more detailed photos to obtain a bigger playing area... clouds are pretty easy to make

The Crimson Skies game uses a 36x36 board. I'm trying to find a good aerial pic that would print well at that size ..... if it's financially within reason .... i have no idea what a color print that size would run. The idea is to mount it to a sheet of foamcore, or laminate it though i know the local office max only has a 24" wide laminating machine. The best i've been able to do so far is 4 - 18x18 cloud pics The other thing I thought of would be to try and paint a similar design on a 36x36 piece of foamcore. |
