Well i got a chance to play AT-43 big time yesterday. So far so good. We used the main Rule Book, but even that doesn't contain all of the stuff needed to play the game properly yet. Looks like the army books go along way to complete the game. This game is focused on the 40k market, and so far i think it does what R wants it to be. I am pleased with the quality of the pre-paints given that they will never be up to the standards of a good mini painter, but i think they are better than the quality of alot of 'i'm not a painter' crowd can paint. I like the idea of a) walking into my FGS buying some minis, and playing with them within minutes. b) not having to play against... silver fish, primed white/black, half build armies of some opponents. c) I can repaint completely at my leasure or just do some highlighting to improve the paint jobs with very little work.

as far as the turn seq. goes... i'm also not a big fan of 'you-go-i-watch', but at least it's not one side moves all there minis, then it's your turn, it's an alternating unit activation... so your not waiting too long to do something. i don't think you would have enough time to..... 'go use the restroom, cook a snack, watch a TV show, or whatever' ...lol but thats just my 2c.

my complaints are more how the game is being sold, and army configuration as it pertains to how the game is packaged. I'm not happy with the piece meal release of the minis and books. you need to buy 2 attachement boxes of minis to fill out one platoon. At $30 a pop when you might need only one mini out of the 6 in the box... well bugs me.

as far as the general pricing goes... i think its fair. i think that works out to about $5 each for regular troop types, up to $10 each for the more advanced troop types and heros. The Fire Toad, which is a nice hard plastic walker type of mini along with a plastic ship cargo container model sells for $30. again i'm fine with that.

The game doesn't seem to be overly complex. It is not a small-scale skirmish game but an small/large unit vs unit game. so my current list of fav mini games are...

1) Infinity (replaced rez for a number of reasons... company support, quality of minis, style of game play.)

2) AT-43

3) FOW

4) GW Historcial Wild West

I use proxies for some minis as well. Just paint a cross on a shoulder pad and you have a medic. Kinda like we did with 40k back in the day.
I agree that the packaging could be better, but the game is still more affordable than most on the market.
