I am going to be a bit Oblivious for a while I think - I finally bought Oblivion yesterday. My, oh my. The first time you cast flare on a giant rat as it leaps at you, and it squeals and twists as the flames kill it, still flying right at you.... This is the prettiest game that I have ever played. Even with my new graphics card my machine can just barely handle it, for the first time in years I actually want to get a new computer. (So much for a digital camera this summer....) Even with the graphics set to the 'lowest' setting the thing is gorgeous, and now I want it all. The fact that the game is also fun doesn't hurt either. The Auld Grump, generally more of a fan of DTP programs than games, but.... |

Oblivion is a phenomenal game. I like being able to wander around and find adventures. My computer ran it ok, but my PS3 runs it crazy good. And in HD. ![]() I'm playing as a full mage right now and the experience has been completely different than playing as a warrior. I've dabbled with a thief character and thats very different as well. Not many games can pull that off. And its just so damn pretty... |

Funny thing is I have yet to fire up the game on my new and improved box. I'm sure (mores the point I know) it would run like a dream but I really haven't gotten back into it again. Has anyone gotten the addons? Do that add to the game in many ways? I'm sliding fast down the path of FPS (well really I was already there) to the point that RTS just don't have the additive hold anymore. C&C# might change that. Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Heh, logged off last night, then sat down for some heavy Oblivion playing... and booted up the word processor instead, and started statting out pirates for the summer game instead. Somewhere on my personal character sheet someone wrote in Alignment: Lawful. ![]() Ah well, goofing off was fun for the few minutes it lasted. The Auld Grump |

I love Oblivion. I have a 6.8 ghz with a 512 MB NVIDEA graphics card and all I can say is WOW. Some of the missions are lame but not all of them. My wife says that Oblivion is missing something that Morrowind had. I like it though and I still play morrowind Nights of the Nine is allright, need to pick up the Shivering Isles yet. I normally play a Battle Mage or a Spell Sword. This time a made a custom class that i simply called Scout Mage. Focusing on Marksmanship, sneak, and Illusion. Its too bad I can no longer play Daggerfall on my computer ![]() |

The game is evil, I tell you. Evil! It has stolen hours of my life - I don't know where they went, I come to and five hours have passed and my character has gained four levels.... 26th level, and no where near all the quests are done. Some of the quests will come and hunt you down! There I was, standing on a rooftop in Bruma, and some guy comes up to me and tells me that the Countess wants to talk to me. I was practicing my jumping, going from rooftop to rooftop in classic hero fashion, and suddenly he was behind me talking - damn he's good! ![]() It actually makes me want to go back and give Morrowind another chance. And I just purchased Bethesda's Cthulhu game as well. And after I get my new computer I am getting the expansions for Oblivion as well. The game had the same effect on my room mate - he went out and bought a new computer just to play it. The Auld Grump |

Yeah, I miss levitate, mark, and recall - I can understand why they were removed, but I do miss them. You really needed those last two in Daggerfall, where you could fall between the cracks in the world and be lost in interdimensional space. (Clipping errors - there were places where you could accidentally fall through the floor, and be stuck traveling around inside of the walls, able to see everything, but unable to interact with it....) Daggerfall was 'UGE! so very many places to go, and so many random quests. The Auld Grump |

I finished playing through the main quest. All the towers are closed. The last Oblivion Gate closing reprized my first - running pell mell through Hell to get to the place where I can close the gate. Waaaaaaaaaggghhh!! Starting over to do the lesser quests - somehow getting a contract to kill ten imps is not nearly as exciting when you can kill the things with a single shot. I could only take so much of the cake walk before deciding to start over. I am also trying out some of the mods this time around, taking a companion NPC, saddlebags, and a few other things. There is an entire Oblivion website dedicated to some of it is darned pretty. Some are free, in game prices, and others can cost up to 100,000 GP. The mods themselves are, of course, free. ![]() Good game, looking forward to playing Cthulhu next. The Auld Grump |

Glad to hear you completed the main quest for Oblivion. I've been playing it for a long time, and intentionally delayed the main quest segments while enjoying the world. One thing I found with Morrowing is that small quests were no longer satisfying after saving the world... so I've done things differently this time. When Knights of the Nine was released, I restarted a different type of characters, a valiant Orc, who followed a similar path to Mazoga. Of course, after completing Knights of the Nine, I had fantastic equipment, so I just upped the difficulty to keep things interesting. There are tons of good fan made additions to the game, not to mention the huge amount of options within the game itself... this is not a game to easily put aside ![]() One thing to note though, if you did the main quest almost exclusively, there are some side quests that you will no longer be able to do. When the main quest triggers the spawning of gates all across the land, some quest locations/items that share the same space as the gates are destroyed. Worth replaying from the beginning with a new character ![]() Arabin |

Dude, the Wizard's Tower is a whole series of missions into itself. I restarted a magic-user type Nord and spending everything between taking main dude to fotress and the recovery of book to just unlock everything in the new tower. |

As long as your other components can handle it, you can probably upgrade your card fairly cheaply. The biggest problem will be finding one that will work with your motherboard... and if you haven't already... stock up on memory ![]() Oblivion will probably be released sometime soon with both Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles included so you will get a bargain when you do get it.
