Outlook 2000 .pst [rant on] No hope I tell you, set up an auto archive system to keep the *.pst from getting to 2g (the limit for outlook 2000) and the non/ computer savvy will complain that they cant find their archived mails. (even when shown where, how and so on to get them) Set up the autoarchive to prompt them to click 'ok' and what do they do? of course click 'Cancel' rinse and repeat. Oh NO! I cant open my emails! I cant receive! oh No I have important emails meetings contacts!!! me, "Did you ok the autoarchive?" them, "um no I need those emails." me, sigh, "I told you how to retrieve them and how to have them always accessible. Now I am going to have to spend part of the day cutting 100 megs of emails out so you can access them." them, "I cant lose any of them! What will I lose!?!?" me, "I dunno, it clips the end. Wish you archived didnt you." and if that isnt enough, rinse and repeat in 6 months. with same guy, then another 3-4 months for another and another. In a small office everyone knows whats going on, Particularly when I raise hell bitching about clicking the damned ARCHIVE button. ... [rant off] Yes, I am an architect, IT, construction manager, carpenter, HR, hardware maintenance and general smartass person. Now wheres did that other hat go. Last Boss I had did the same thing... except his wasnt salvagable... 2500 contacts. *POOF* 7 years of email correspondants *POOF* |

Thats why we have 100mb mailbox limits, it gets bigger than that your mail stops. Plus y'know server end mailbox's rather than local. |

im a network admin as well.... i had my users stop using .pst files for stuff like personal folders and backups. tape backup for the whole company, and i just had the users store all their folders under the "Outlook Today" or under their Inbox folder and everything is now on the server being backed up instead of relying on the .pst file to stay intact. |
