In a move sure to re-ignite the moon landing hoax theory, the original, high-quality magnetic tapes that had the footage of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon (Or on a soundstage. Take your pick).

That's silly, of course we went to the moon! How else would we know there's an alien base on the dark side?

lol...I do think we went to the moon (once maybe twice ) but in all honesty this "missing tapes" issue sure casts an air of suspicion on the whole period. I mean really, how could you lose one of the most important film archives in mankind's short history? And once again it's the kind of footage that could end a lot of speculation but has conveniently fallen through the cracks. Are they scared we would find I-beams and hanging studio lights in the high resolution footage Personally I think that the cold war competitive rush to get to the moon prompted NASA to take a few "short cuts" in order to convince the world of their technical superiority. We may have gone there after that but you have to ask yourself why it is taking us so long to return. More importantly why is it that when the subject is brought up with NASA it's always 20-25 years away? Original JFK challenge date in 1961 to 1968 lunar orbit. 7 short years starting from absolutely nothing. We did it then why the hell is it taking so long to do it now with all of our advances. And don't tell me there's no good reason to go there, there are mineral resources, Helium 3 sitting on the surface, not to mention the opportunities for solar observation in a pristine environment...and don't forget about a staging point for a future Mars mission. It all stinks to high heaven to me.

But then again I'm a bit of a conspiracy buff if you hadn't guessed

Yeah, while the loss of human life is tragic, you gotta think, strapping a really big bomb to your butt to get off this rock isn't one of the safest things to do! And that's basically what those rockets are, really big bombs!

Look at what happened with the Russian rocket that blew up. We have satellite pictures of them fueling the thing, then on the next pass, you've got this huge crater! I don't remember the size, but it was massive!

But even so, I think the majority of the astronauts would agree that it's worth the risk!

But it is a shame that they lost the originals.

Well something that occured to me as far as the accident ratio is concerned, if you added up the total miles travelled and stress factors sustained on the space craft involved, I'm sure you'd see that these craft have gone far beyond the average distance/stress factor ratio that say, oh airplanes go through.

Nothing on the planet performs anywhere near as well as the space craft that we have. Granted, it takes a lot of money and highly trained personnel to do it, so they need to stop cutting the budgets and start paying attention to the risks more!

They lost more than tapes.
