There is something addictive about apes with guns... can't put my fingur on what it is, but it's cool. I primarily use apes for my Gangs of Mega-City One games, but I'm sure there are many other uses. Since I've searched all over the place collecting together my gang members, I thought I'd post a list of where you can find the appropriate minis.

Total Minis:
Chimp = 24
Gorilla = 38
Other = 3

Great value and some of the best chimps out there.

(1 Gorilla)
Comes as part of a 3 pack with two other non-ape minis.

(3 cybernetically enhanced gorillas)
Set also comes with 3 skeletal dogs.

(1 Chimp)
This guy is slightly larger than the Mongoose chimps, but fits in well and is begging for customization.

(2 Gorillas)
This figure is superb, holding a crowbar and machine gun. There is another variation where he is holding something other than a crowbar but the crowbar guy is better IMO.

(4 Gorillas)
These guys will tower over your other minis, but they do work very well for a Top Dog of your gang. The guy in the bottom leg with the shotgun and cigar is my ape gang's current Top Dog.

(15 Gorillas, 1 Gibbon)
Perfect for that Planet of the Apes feel. The silverback is huge and the gorillas on motorbikes are a nice addition. I couldn't find a link in the US as EurekaMin.com does not list them, but Brigade Games used to stock them.

(4 Gorillas, 1 Gibbon/Chimp)
Chop off the tail from the gibbon and he works as a chimp. This set includes the only female Gorilla currently available! These are listed on the US website (see link above).

(10 Gibbons)
As before, chop off the tails and you have a workable chimp mini. My favourite of these is the hacker with a laptop

(3 Gorilla, 1 Chimps, 1 Orangutan, 1 Gorilla-Mech)
One chimp is a gibbon again, but he makes an excellent Ape Gang Bat Glider specialist.

These need a little customization to make them work, but there are three different types. If I had any sculpting skill, I'd add an overcoat to the chimp holding his arms up, make him into a flasher Remember the gremlin from Gremlins?

(1 Gorilla)
A four armed mutant gorilla with a long tail. Very cool to add a mutant specialist to your ape gang, or to modify.

(1 Chimp)
Needs to be modified to have the human as the slave/pet, but another very cool chimp. Thanks to Scott for this one.

I might be forgetting some but that is a good start. There are a number of fantasy apes that could be customized from the and companies the 100 Kingdoms by , but I don't have the skill to customize them for modern/future gaming, so I didn't list them all.

Anyway, I hope someone finds the list useful. I sure had a lot of fun seeking these guys out. If you know of any I missed, post away!

Last night on the History Channel, Planet of the Apes was on. MMMM MMM GOOD!

Edit: What do you mean Arabin, you don't know how to mod them to make them look modern? Just buy a weapons pack for the 4" Ultimate Soldier (found at Toys R Us) and use those. They are a little large, but will still work. A better bet is to purchase some Tamiya weapon packs. They are 35MM but will definately work.

Ok, perhaps having the skill isn't the problem (though I don't have much) it's more a case of time. I recently converted the Doctor Ape mini from Dreamblade into a female chimp. I just rushed a poor photo to show you... but I'll have to try to take a better photo later.

Most of the Dreamblade minis are too large scale to rebase and use, either that or too weird... since they are nightmares and dreams. But the chimp is not too bad.

In my custom I added a nice wide brim hat, painted the overalls as a pink dress, and swapped out her potion vial for a nice big gun. I'm really proud of how she came out and think she'd work perfectly as a Futsie specialist, though I'll just use her as a gang member for now.

I really enjoyed Dreamblade when I played it on the launch tournament, but haven't managed to convince my wife to try it yet. Also, I really like the randomness of the first tournament where you open a starter and a booster, write down the contents, swap both list and minis with the person sitting across from you, and construct a deck from what you get. It put everyone on a more level playing field and so was a blast IMO. Now the tournaments are all constructed, so everyone has handfuls of rare minis that would cost $30-$50 each to pick up on ebay. If I do get to play again sometime, it'll be casual... maybe break out all the minis I have into rare, uncommon and common, then take it in turns to pick an even number of each category.

Anyway, back to apes... Doctor Ape was an uncommon from the first release so I wouldn't be surprised if you have him. If I can think of a more drastic conversion, I might do another one as he is very cool, but I needed a female chimp for my gang and after a quick operation, I had my mini,

Steve, I grew up with PG Tips tea commercials in the UK which as far as I know, has always used chimps dressed up in their commercials. I typically don't like dressing up animals (especially cats and dogs) but see nothing wrong with apes in a fantasy setting. They can be a bit freaky... which is why Planet of the Apes was such a huge success (original). The remake wasn't great, but the costumes were, and those guys freak me out a little.

I think circus clowns are a lot scarrier though.

Still, everyone is entitled to their own opinions

Arabin, I should be more clear in my earlier (grumpier) post. I have NOTHING against gaming figures of any sort. I think it would be a hoot to game Planet of the Apes for instance. And perhaps one of these days we can meet up and I'll get in my first game of GOMC1 - happy to stomp on your Apes!

My comment had to do with real-life. Actual chimps in-person I find creepy. And I don't like seeing them "dressed up" like people. Seems cruel to me. Like a bear wearing a tutu in a circus act. Unnatural. I think most monkeys are kinda cute, and I have great respect for Apes. Can't imagine anyone putting clothes on a Silverback!

Now, loads of people put clothing on their dogs and take 'em for walks, and with domesticated animals I have no problems.

Heh, thanks for the clarification and you are more than welcome to get stomped on by my ape gang Things haven't really slowed down for me since we moved into the new house. I took a couple of hours out from building furniture, unpacking, cleaning etc. and I got in serious trouble with the missus. Anyone know a good maid service?

I actually hate people dressing up domesticated animals. I'm a cat person myself and love my cats, but I couldn't imagine putting them in silly clothes. It just doesn't seem right.

When it comes to apes, I can see your point, but they are far more intelligent than domesticated animals (in general) and I don't feel so bad for chimps. I can't really explain why. Probably because of the common belief that we evolved from them... or something. Maybe it's my ignorance of how they are treated or something.

In terms of dressing up a Silverback... lol. I think the mere attempt would have you skinned alive with your skin used as a hat to keep off the rain That's probably why my ape gang has a Silverback as a Top Dog... though I don't know how to paint it well enough to show that.

The cliffhanger ones are a little large, but I might be able to use a couple of them.

I like the little monkey with the flint lock pistol coming up from Eureka, but I'm not too keen on his dandy slave. The little guy will make a great chimp juve once his tail gets chopped off

The West Wind one is hard to see well in the image. I like a couple of the minis in that set, but I can't justify buying a 10 pack of minis for 3 or 4 I actually like.

It's amazing just how many apes are available these days!

Did you forget to pack up your imagination when you moved? Quick, go back and get it before the occupants of the old place find it.

I take mini's that I don't like and make them "dead". Lots 'O fun taking a rubber mallot and smack them into another shape. I also found out that a soldering gun makes cool marks on the minis and that an LP torch will make quick work of them too.

Quick Arabin, run, don't walk, and pack your imagination and put it in your new place.
