Ok...I've borrowed a few of your ideas and begin to put them in motion... An old General knows an old collegue of a friendly Lodge in Europe (also a Spy for the Americans or english I've to think about it as I don't know if I'll use ones or the others) is lost in the Barovia land...the last thing know: A Lord Vampire is creating vampires ables to live in daylight...and the Nazis want that power...the Lodge has to stop that union from happening and in the procees kill the vampire... So for the Players it will be a rescue mision of an undercover spy that has to be brought back to home...(they won't know nothing about Lodges or Vampires)... They are send to a small village in the capates in Romania called Barovia -The spy cames from Deutchland or Polad to there because is where they family lived and they will hide them (The Vistanis maybe)...the Players will be send in a plane and they have to bring back the spy (I have to take a look at the geography but taking the river Tisza that goes to the Danubio and from there to the Dead sea where a boat or submarine awaits them)... They depart (from where ¿??) and when they enter in the Carpates near Barovia a misterious fog arises and sudenly when they are about to jump something hit the plane... it goes down...the group (a squad, usually 10 men - they will have to choose to form the group 1 oficial, 1 scout, 1 snipper, or squadies ) has to make a bad jump... the player (I hope) survive the jump a few of the others die or are made prisioners (if a player die they could serve as the new players) and one or two keeps with them... and they have to get togheter fighting a group of nazis that have seen the "landing"... From here they would have to go to Barovia to find the Spy ... and the campaing begins (won't say much more to not spoil the Expedition to castle Ravenloft but I'll use it more or less to make things advance...) I would love ear a few ideas that help me advance it more... Thanks to all the input... |

(A minor suggestion, but one that may help the effect your are wanting) Rather than introducing a 'mysterious' fog, you can just use a normal one, or have the plane lose its way in cloud as it's flying through the mountains. You'll get all the 'lost after a plane crash' effects - but the players will still think they are in a "normal" game. This should help increase the impact of any 'weird' things that start happening. (This is a trick from story and movie writing - take some time to make sure the characters are well established in their 'normal' world before throwing them into the 'special' world of the adventure - it makes the transition, and subsequent time in the 'special' world much more dramatic.) EDIT: Thinking about this a little more, you could give them a normal (WW2) fire-fight or two after the crash before you start hitting them with the 'weird' stuff - they'll know somethings gone wrong (they're a bit beat-up, in the wrong place, with no maps, and no way to call for help) but won't know how badly wrong for a while. Lots of potential for suspense, shock and awe there. ![]() |

Another possibility - Tie it in with the German Occult Bureau (real group), who have found a new ally in the lands between the Deutchland and the Rodina, a man of noble birth, now elevated to a commission for the Reich, Colonel Strahd von Zarovitch... the PCs have no solid information, just that the Germans have found someone, or something in the mountains.... I might try that for Spycraft. ![]() The Auld Grump |
