ME! Seems they didn't keep track of what the factory was producing now they've got crap on their hands. I'm not paying $30 USD for those. I could see paying what I would for a bag of army men, oh say $1.00 USD. What a waste of what could have been something cool. The AT-43 Minis' are the BOMB! Hope Mongoose doesn't close down due to this snafu. I'll continue to buy GOMC-1 and B5 stuff, but I won't touch these until the Advanced rules ship AND they have fixed the issue with the crappy models. Yes, I'm ranting, mainly cause Sprange has decided to sell those POS anyway. CCotD' |

Interesting. Keep following the story. Go to the Mongoose forum and read their very interesting spin on this. |

Wow, this is very shocking. It'll be interesting to see if the images that should be updated on the site on Friday are any better, but even if they are, these are a long way short of what was promised. They still claim to be as good as or better than any other pre-painted minis currently available... but while I do get duds sometimes, overall I think Heroclix and Star Wars minis are better quality than what we are seeing from Mongoose. I'm not convinced it will sell well enough to have a second wave produced, but if it does, and they get rid of the "googly eyes" then I'll take another look then. For now, I'll take a better look at AT-43 instead. Arabin |

From what I read, they trashed ones that got a little out of hand. I've seen WotC do the same thing, and can't really blame them. Expect to read some dissention - just nothing too heated. I was more remarking about the information on their forums that was, well, nothing short of corporate spin. Almost WotC-ish in its absurdity, fr'instance, the claim that a) they're not really all that bad, or b) they put the new pictures up without actually looking at them. |

Its not the paint jobs that are the real problem; its the sculpts. They're just plain bad. Very stiff like the old plastic Army Men. They have to be out of their minds to think people will pay upwards of $30 for 6 or so of these. This could do a lot of damage to Mongoose. This type of thing isn't cheap. Ah well, glad I wasn't getting myself excited about it. |

Between this and AT43 the spectrum of pre-paints seems to have established itself. |

Agreed on all points SG. The sad part is that this will probably kill BFE before it even takes off. If they have lousy sales for the initial run I can't see them continuing the line. The thing that might save them are the vehicles. If the tanks, trucks, and cars look decent then they may get peripheral sales from people like me who are just looking for some nice pre-paints for gaming. |

Hmmm...Speaking of which, any of you kind folks out there feel like dropping the WWG bomb on this thread dealing with terrain? http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB ... highlight= There's a few really good shots of Mayhem in action from our photo gallery that people would probably really respond to. I would do it myself but that tends to look a bit desperate: |

I used to drop links and photos for WWG terrain on the Gangs of Mega-City One forum, and have seen others do the same. Others have done the same for SST. Unfortunately posting on that forum is like stripping naked and hanging a bullseye over your chest while standing in front of a firing squad. At least, that's my experience. I used to be a big fan of Mongoose and worked on their demo team for a while, but for me, I left with a sour taste in my mouth. I don't want to badmouth them, and will almost certainly buy any Dredd products they release in the future, but other than that I'm keeping my distance. Hopefully someone else here will still like them enough, or at least not have a bad opinion of them, and will post those photos. They are great images, and deserve to be spread around ![]() Arabin |

You put the nail on the head Arabin. I check the Mongoose forums ocassionally, but I rarely post unless I feel like the topic is safe enough not to get caught in the flames. I do like their GOMC-1 and both B5 products, but the people who visit that forum are real pieces of work, and their moderators put up with a lot more than I would as a moderator. But again I digress. The biggest reason I won't be purchasing this until the quality at least matches AT-43 is that at first Matt decided they were not up to Mongoose quality, then turns around and says they will sell anyway because others state that they aren't that bad. WTF!?!? Compromising your standards for a $, to me is deceiptful. They should have had a better contract that would allow them to back out if the quality was not up to their standards. Or have random samples sent to them during production so errors like this would have been avoided. I think AT-43 set the standard pretty high compared to the other stuff on the market. I will be supporting AT-43 with my $'s. (And of course World Works) CCotD' |

"What we have here is failure to communicate." They had a problem with the factory. They expected one thing, the factory told them they were getting it (and probably gave them that in the early QA rounds), and then they probably got a little lazy with their vendor diligence, until all of the sudden they've got crap - crap they paid for, and have to sell. Same thing happened with one of the later DDM sets with WotC. Everyone in business has a story about getting burned by a vendor. Sadly for Mongoose, this is bad timing for them. Its a new line and venture for them, so (unless the WotC War Drums problem) they don't have a huge dedicated following. And they publicly set high expectations. Then, when it hit the fan, instead of taking a step back, measuring their words (or just going mum), they publicly castigated their own line ... only to take it back a little while later. Ooops. Bad communication on the front end, bad communication on the business side (watch your vendors, always) and bad communication on the back end. For all people bash the D&D Minis, their approach has been good, and the product line communication has been good. They started out somewhat low key (certainly not "these are going to be pro painted quality"), and have gradually increased the quality of the product. Mongoose could have learned a thing or two there, I think. |
