I've seen the SWSB game mentioned a few times on this forum, and it seems a fair number of people have bought the starter set, and maybe a couple of boosters. I haven't bought any of it yet, but I'd love to hear what those that have think of the game and the miniatures. Is it worth getting?

Sorry Arabin, I have not tried the game.

I've not purchased it mainly because the price point vs content is really putting me off. I just cannot justify to myself plunking down $30-$40 for a couple chunks of plastic and some rules.

I think maybe a fair number of viewers of the post have had similar thoughts and are coming here looking for a review themselved to decide if they will get it.

Best I can do is to point you over to the BGG site where the reviewers are giving it a 6.5 out of 10:

Bought it, not played it. I've picked it up mainly to use the ships for SW RPG'ing.

The rules do look a bit 'lite', so I'll probably stick to the D20 ship rules.

Bought it, have the full set (but then i collect Star Wars things, while many many people complain about the rules, and i have seen numerous threads in various places on "how to fix" the game. I don't have a big problem with the game as it is, i like the fact it doesn't take 4 hours to play it,

The ships aren't bad, they are not to scale, really at all, but it is the first place you can get some of them.

Thanks for the responses all, and for the link Pelthar. It's amazing, but even though I often recommend BGG to others, I didn't think to check there myself :)

Looking forward to CCoTD's thoughts on the game too.

I used to collect everything Star Wars but I had to stop as I have so many action figures, books, etc, and when the prequels came out, I couldn't keep up with everything being released. Now I'm mainly just collecting SWM and the Star Wars Lego sets. I suspect that I'll pass on the Star Wars ships game, but I am interested in hearing about it.

Look in RotS about 3 and a half minutes in, during the Battle of Coruscant, very soon after Anakin says "Master General Greviouss ship is dead ahead. The one crawling with Vulture droids". There are Vulture droids with those markings walking all over the Invisible Hand.

Ok, here's my impressions of the game.

Extremely simple. A game (without the TV being on) takes about 30 minutes and that is just the starter set.

I do believe the game, as done, is well balanced. The capital ships have 4 quadrants. With Armor being heaviest in the front, then the sides, with the lowest in the Rear. The forward weapons has low +'s to hit with mediocre damage, while the broadside weapons do heavy damage and have high +'s to hit. So you trade the higher firepower with the lower armor.

But the game is still very basic. I have not played the fleet rules yet, but the normal game is really simplistic. But if you are creating the game for a younger audience, then I they hit their mark. It is also a good beer and pretzel game or a I have an hour to kill, let's kill something game too.

I do plan on getting the boosters, mainly due to the my kids digging Star Wars. I personally am not a fan (I prefer Star Trek TOS.)
