It has been years (read over ten plus) since I have played a boardgame of any kind.

Might go the Descent path... have the incentive to get Bruce's new caven floor molds (when the wall molds have been released) and knock up a stone board. Plus Dad has never Dungeoned Bashed before, even though he was the start to my addiction.

BattleLore my be a own buy down the track.

Lord Abaddon of Wormwood

I've played Descent and Memoir 44 (BattleLore's predecessor), and watched a game of Runebound being played. Based on that I'd offer the following:

Descent has some snazzy graphics and cool minis and is a pleasure to play. Not to difficult to learn, you can be up and running in no time. Lots of characters to choose from, weapons and other artifacts to spice things up. And as was mentioned, the DM has fun too. However, it's designed to have a DM so if you are looking for a two player game, I'd pass. I think one player against a DM would not be a satisfying game. You need at least 2 and preferably 3-4 adventurers, plus a DM.

BattleLore is an easy-to-learn and play game with some cool graphics and minis. The card activation system is sweet, and the game is designed for two players. I have enjoyed the heck out of Memoir (a buddy of mine and I have played all 16 initial scenarios, and we can set it up, play a game, switch sides, play it again, and put it away in about 75 minutes). We are about to start in ont he next expansion and those scenarios.

Runebound was fun to watch, but at times it looked more like a bunch of people playing solo (as was already mentioned). Not as much interaction as I would have liked.

So if you are looking for a 2-player game, go BattleLore. If you can get 4-5 people together, then Descent. And before you plunk down the cash for Runebound, I'd suggest heading out to Boardgamegeek.com and reading a few game reports and seeing what others have to say. My initial reaction was that it was okay, but not a keeper (a game I wanna own myself).
