Just heard about this one (advanced screening tomorrow night, got an invite but cannot go), it going to start in Australia in 18/01/07. Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro delivers a unique, richly imagined epic with PAN’S LABYRINTH, a gothic fairytale set against the postwar repression of Franco’s Spain. Harnessing the formal characteristics of classic folklore to a 20th Century landscape, del Toro delivers a timeless tale of good and evil, bravery and sacrifice, love and loss. Needless to say this is a much see (who cares if it's any good I just want to Fae!) Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

I've seen It ![]() What an amazing film. Just don't let the monsters and the make up in the trailer fool you, this is a raw tale about the horrors of war and fascism. Scary, sad and beautiful at the same time. A must see, but please don't bring your kids to the theatre. |

No kids but a child-like wife (easily frightened), would it be a tad too much for her? Lord Abaddon of Wormwood |

Ever since I saw some preview stuff early this past fall I have been pretty excited about seeing it. I hard it was a bit more mature than the previews make it look! I am all for that! ~Floyd |

And it has won an Oscar for cinematography. ![]() Very good movie, I have a strange feeling that the King did not know all of the faun's agenda... ![]() And I say again, Torres really did not like Franco. The Auld Grump, and Gore got an Oscar too? What a strange world we live in. ![]() |

I'm a huge Guillermo fan (massive Hellboy fangeek here) and Pan's Labyrinth was certainly on par with his other work. While I was totally enthralled by the richly detailed fantasy bits shown, the rest of the movie left me a bit empty. There were more opportunities there to exploit the fantasy side of the stick and get deeper into that world. The backstory was well done and that juxtaposition was ok but I don't think we need an "excuse" in this day and age to include things which some feel "legitimize" the fantasy. The whole time watching I couldn't help but to feel he was throwing in these heavy themes to give himself permission to get into the eyecandy laden fantasy that he loves. In my opinion Guillermo should direct the Hobbit. |
