From , now this is not the same size tube or head but it is the same glue. I have been using this since earily 2004 upon finding it.

I have two buildings left from when CWU was released (the other I set free upon moving) that I used this glue and it remains perfect. This is in a Sunroom which gets morning Summer sun for the past two years. Still strong. The room doesn't use Air Con so it has survived humid weather too.

The office pen doesn't seem to be bought into Australia as a staple.

This is a very sweet system with a touch of Ars Magica in the magic section, very neat game again with a very neat bottom line. This has the potental of being one of the great games around.

The end result is there is little need to invest in the WotC hardbacks these days - also "buying" into the whole d20 feels like your short changing yourself but paying (time and money) through the nose.

Now this is the first gaming world I ever did, it has been redone a couple of times and has just risen again. It's a very cool world. The downer is that Mongoose is "churning" out books that almost shames WotC efforts.


In my last post I said that d20 is time consuming, this is a true statment for the core product. Some of the spin-offs True20, Castles&Crusades have take the rough un-plained product and sanded down the knoted spots.

Hmmm, I have played a bit of True 20, and rather liked it - combat never becomes quite as survivable as it can sometimes be in D&D (D20). While simple the system has a flavor all of its own. (Mutants & Masterminds uses a similar system, if your kids like comic books then M&M might be a system to look into later.)

I really did not much like Savage Worlds, feeling that it was made simple to the point of blandness - this is most notable in magic and in Weird Science, like over cooked vegetables.... I might not have had as strong a reaction against the system if I had not purchased it with an eye to running a steam punk game with it. One of the few systems that I have tried where I honestly felt ripped off.

The lack of a skill system has made me avoid C&C completely, I like having a real skill system, C&C basically fakes it with stat rolls. It may be a good system, but it is not my cup of tea.

Rune Quest... all my experience with RQ has been with previous versions of the game, but I have had experience with all of the previous editions of the game. The previous versions had one of the most organic experience systems that I have ever seen, with use of a skill allowing a chance to increase in said skill, but with higher level skills harder to actually increase. Combat can be very lethal, you don't have all that many hit points, and losing limbs is quite common. I intend to purchase RQ in the near future, I just keep forgetting to order it.

Looks like I'm coming late to this party Zenguy, but I second your approach! I was faced with a very similar situation, and the same debate. Upgrade to the latest D&D or go with something else.

In the end I opted for D&D 3.5. It's only three books, it's a familiar world, and it's the one my kids (and their three cousins) will likely get exposed to again by others as they grow older.

Everything was new to them so nothing to unlearn. About the only thing I changed at all was the magic, streamlining it a little. I eliminated the need for components. I also went through the list of spells available and cherry-picked the ones that might be handy and that was their list to select from. Otherwise, we went pretty much straight with the rules.

They had a blast with their first actual role-playing gig. It was a three part adventure that took two sessions to complete each part. The grew from 1st to 3rd level in the process.

The eldest cousin became quite pleased witht he game,a nd that has led to some no-brainer birthday and christmas gifts for him. He now has the three book set, and a small pile of minis. I also picked up a bunch of player character "commons" for various races and professions, and that became his favorite gift. Now he had his siblings/friends can make characters based on the various minis he has.

My daughter recently started hanging out with a group of kids who, it turns out, get together weekly and play D&D. They were tickled to discover she knew the game and had played it with her old man

SeattleG, what was the adventure you ran them through? I pick up a couple of DungeonCrawls that are good for getting started, but am interested in any other adventures, particularly ones that spin out a longer story.

Hmmm, you may want to check out the latest Adventure Path that is showing up in Dungeon Magazine, so far it looks like a lot of fun, and the adventures to form a long story arc as the campaign progresses.

Zen ... it was one of my own devising, not a module I can point you at. I had it in mind to do something in three parts, and figured two sessions for each part, so six sessions total. But there was a seventh session, the first one, where I sat them all down, talked about how role-playing gsames worked, and helped each one create their characters and buy equipment.

Keep in mind this was for six kids ages 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. This was there first ever role-playing experience.

Part I Old lord of a realm dies, his young son takes over. There's the ruins of where an old palace used to stand, but all that remains is the cellar area below. The prince wants to rebuild that old palace as a summer home, and seeks out some local toughs to clear it out of whatever might be down there.

That gave the party an in-town adventure, where they got to learn the basics of role-playing with NPC (me). Simply meeting folks, having an audience with the new young lord, etc. And the second session was tackling the dungeon. Basic simple stuff like traps and chests and poison and the usual. First blood however was drawn by a rather nasty vine that grabbed one of the party by the ankle and pounded them a couple of times into the ground before the party could figure out what to do to a vine. That was top-side, before they even reached the dungeon entrance.

Part II Clues uncovered while clearing out the dungeon led them to believe the local bad-guy activity wasn't just random but possibly being orchestrated by someone. All signs pointed to a large cavern complex to the north, in an old sulfer mine.

This was a huge cave complex, and it did take two gaming sessions to complete. The solved the mystery in part, fought the bad guys, and closed down that operation. The cave had an underground river, so they got to deal with water and what might live there. There was also a boat they could borrow to follow a swift current, or not.

Part III All evidence pointed to an old village that was abandoned long ago when a mysterious plague started killing off the residents one by one. They traveled further north (for a few more wilderness encounters) to reach the town. Turns out there was some necromancy afoot, and they had a very nasty surprise in a graveyard, followed by figuring out which crypt led to the secret under ground lair of the nasty wizard. They spent a day topside getting there and fighting skellies and such, and another day down below. Culminated in a big battle between the six versus the wizard.

It was a really fun fight. They finally killed his undead minotaur and managed to stop him from raising him again. He was making his escape across a rickety roap bridge when they wrecked it, and the wizard plummeted to his death.

Or did he? No body was ever recovered The kids went from first to third level and found the occasional magical item along the way to spice things up.

It was the first adventure I had penned in maybe 30 years. I was quite happy with it, because the kids (did I mention three were mine, three were their cousins) loved it. We used only painted plastic D&D minis, and (though I probably shouldn't mention this here), some nice 2D terrain tiles from skeletonkey games that I printed out and taped together. So it was very colorful. The minis and the maps were a hit.
