Post subject: | Yippee! Finished my model! |
I have been working essentially every single day since the end of June making a 3D computer model of a 16th century Portuguese Indiaman following 16th century parts lists and design treatises. I lost track of the part count -- it's the part by part construction of a ship, so there are hundreds at least, probably over a thousand. I keep telling people at school that it was just a lot of simple tasks repeated endlessly, but there was a fair amount of sitting there going, "What do they mean by that? how would those fit together?" Plus the "So how do I model that part in 3D?" Yesterday I finished the last fiddly bits of the model and took the last screenshots, today I turned in the illustrated construction sequence chapter of my dissertation to my advisor. Although there may be minor changes and fixes, the monster is finished, and I can start making card models again. Yee-hah! I need mass quantities of alcohol! And then cardstock! Alexio |

Oh, how can you post such a thing and not include pictures? Taking a cue from the Auld Grump it seems.. ![]() Sacretis |

I've forgotten how to put up a gallery (head-down, and mono-focused for too long), and I don't have a site to post them to elsewhere. I'd be happy to put up pix if somebody will remind me how it's done. |

Thanks very much for that -- I already HAD an album, it seems. Coolness... Okay, I've put some screencaps up in my 'Alexio' album: http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=0 http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=1 http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=2 http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=3 http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=4 http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=7 http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=5 http://wwgallery.pcinfoman.com/displayi ... =122&pos=6 |

Very cool Alexio, that's the kind of bottom I was trying to pull with my Maiden II build, but the mast isn't quite in the right spot, I can see that now ![]() |

The mast is in the center of the keel, exactly midway between the knee at the sternpost and the curving up at the bow. But it leans aft. The mizzen sits atop the sternpost, and the foremast is set forward on the second deck. You could just as easily put it low on the upcurving stempost, or on the first deck. |
