Expeditious Retreat Press is selling print copies of their excellent world building book A Magical Society: Ecology & Culture for five dollars, and one dollar shipping. I just ordered two copies, one as a belated birthday present to myself, and the other as a Christmas present for a person as yet unchosen. I already have the book as a PDF - it is very good indeed. While technically for the D20 system there is very, very little that is system specific - and all of that is in a single appendix at the back of the book. The link is . For folks who want a sample - a free example can be found - the sample is useful in and of itself, and I recommend getting it even if you have no intention of getting the book itself. ![]() The Auld Grump, yes, I like this book.... *EDIT* As much as I like this book, its companion volume A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe is even better - and has no D20 specific content whatsoever. ![]() |

Yeah, Expeditious Retreat Press is Da Bomb! I picked up their Beast Builder and A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe at a con a few weeks ago - for $10 and $5 respectively! They were supposedly "damaged" copies, but they're actually in far better condition than most books I currently own. And yes, I too already owned a pdf copy of AMS:WE, but I figured it was worth getting a hardcopy of such a gem. |

The end date got pushed back to the 9th of October. It turned out that the first person I thought of to give the second copy to already has one - he picked it up on my recommendation over a year ago... good thing I checked. ![]() The Auld Grump |

Good, Friday is payday for me that gives me a little time to swindle some money from the wife and try to get it. Richard |

Got mine, started reading through it. Not that impressed so far. Basically I could all the beginning chapter in an astronomy or geology class, or some basic research on Wikpedia and Google. I'll hold off on my final determination of a wasted 6 bucks until I read through the society stuff. CCotD' |

I've started reading through the "Culture" side of the book and it is very nicely done. There's a lot of good Biological information which is very interesting. Definately worth the $$ spent, even though I already knew the vast majority of the stuff in the actual planet creation part. CCotD' |
