Ok today DreamPod9 released their new rule for Heavy Gear tabletop game, . Now I'm the first to say I love Gears and the system that first came out with the game - an as with all systems and time (and powergamers) it suffered from rules creep. Now Blitz! is ment to be taking the game back to what's it's all about - the world Terra Nova and the Gears.

Cool, I say but whats the scale means to me and my WWG sets?

1/144th-scale miniatures is the size we are talking about so whats that in simple terms - how much do I have to scale Mayhem by to get this happening? The end result is we want Appleseed action in Mayhem and Silhouette system might be the ticket.

If you assume Mayhem is 1:60 (based on a 1-inch grid representing a 5x5 foot square, and assuming the whole set is more or less scaled around that), then here's the math you need, off the top of my head:

Scale A divided by Scale B = Scaling Multiplier

Scale A and Scale B are placeholders, and which number goes where depends on whether you want to shrink or expand the model.

To scale down, divide the smaller value by the larger value. In this case, you want to shrink 1:60 to 1:144. So:

60 / 144 = 0.41666666666666666666666666666667

Your scaling multiplier is therefore around 0.42. Multiply the dimensions of the 1:60 model by this scaling multiplier to find the correct size for 1:144 scale. (A 7x7 tile at 1:60 scale would be about 2.917x2.917 inches at 1:144 scale.)

When it comes to scaling *up*, divide the larger value by the lower value:

1/144 divided by 1/60 is 2.4, which means 1/60 is 2.4 times larger than 1/144 scale. Multiply the 1:144 scale dimensions by 2.4 to get the correct size at 1:60 scale.

There you go. Assuming I've had enough coffee, it should work.

I think Ebbles post is a bit more informative than mine. I'd just shrink my masterboard to 3"x3" sections to make it nice and round. Not to mention terrain usually looks better if it is a bit bigger than it is supposed to be.
