Your hub may be bad (especially a 10 year old one), or they may have detected multiple connections coming in. Either way, I'd also say get a router. Much easier solution. D-Link, Linksys, Belkin; they're all pretty much the same in quality, I've found. There are occasional difficulties configuring DSL with a router, since some services want a PC to go through the login process to make a connection. But its not really an issue; set up the DSL modem with a PC as normal, then after it connects, switch move the ethernet cable to the router. |

Yeah the router is definately the way to go. Although I have a sneaking suspision that occasionally my company kicks my router off as they have figured out I'm using a router. They won't stop me, as I'm going through one connection, but every once in a while, the router stops responding to the cable modem. It might be a problem with the router, but by watching the trend for when it happens, it seems to be a problem with them kicking the router, not it failing. The other nice thing about using a router, if you have a network ready printer, you can hang it off the router and print to it from any of the computers attached to the router! Allright. Looks like I'll be picking up a router tonight, then. I've been pricing and it right in the $50 range, so not too big a purchase. Thanks for the input folks. |
