And no time to play with it. ![]() I just purchased Campaign Cartographer 3, downloaded it, and now I am off to bed so that I can get up blight and surly tomorrow morning. It looks like it will be a blast. The Auld Grump, CC3, a new printer, and Page Plus 10, soon my master plan to take over the world will be complete... |

I got CC3 about a week ago! I like it, but it's still a little buggy. So far, all of the art for it that I've seen is fantastic. Now I'm torn between finishing the redraw of my world map in CC2 or restarting it in CC3! ![]() But anyway, it is a very nice piece of software! I'm so glad I picked it up! Is it any easier to use? Have they cleaned up the interface to be usable by mere mortals like me? I tried using CC2 more than once. Went through the tutorials, the whole shebang, and still came out scratching my head on how to do simple things. That is ultimately why I got DJ (which has its own limitations). If CC3 has a more friendly interface, I might go a-purchasing - I really want something to do regional and world-level maps. |

I really haven't seen that it's easier to use than CC2. The tools are laid out differently, but it still feels alot like a cad program at least to me. Ugggh. For the last four hours I have been following a pattern of: 1. Read the manual 2. Play with the program, seeing if I have figured out what I have just read 3. Go online and futz around while thinking about the program Repeat.... The program is just as much fun as I thought it would be, and now I am going to be getting five hours of sleep if I go to bed right now... and I still want to futz around setting up some forms for a RPG campaign that I am hammering out.... Must make Will save... must make Will save... must make Will save.... Good night all. The Auld Grump |

I can't wait for ProFantasy to update their other products, specifically the city builder. I'm sure once they get their new art style for that, it'll be fantastic. The only reason I have not picked up CC3 is the fact that I keep reading that it is still buggy. The vew symbols look great. Creating new symbols is suppose to be 80% easier. For now I will just touch up my stuff in photoshop until CC3 is more stable. Alos I heard it does not work well with Fractal Terrains which is a real bummer because I start all of my worlds in FT first then export to CC2. |

You know, I have never been all that happy with random fractal mapping, possibly because I just do not use enough worlds to make it worthwhile for me. (Now if I was playing StarWars, or even Traveller.... ![]() ![]() The Auld Grump, megalomaniac? *EDIT* As an aside - I have been working 60 hour weeks for the last month and a half or so, so I still have not had time to just dawdle over the program. Grrrrr. *EDIT 2* And a further aside - has anyne seen the add on for CC3? It is by a third party, the GM Syndicate, but there are very few pictures of what the expansion contains. Tempting, but without more information..... |

I'm friends with one of the guys, James Miller (metajock), from GM Syndicate, but the lack of images would make me hesitate buying the pack as well. I know they've been doing this kind of thing for a long time, and some of the stuff I have seen looks pretty good. I'm thinking I need to send him an e-mail and find out a little more about the product to see if I want to buy it or not. I'll let you guys know about any info on the product I get from him. I've even tried to get him to start using WWG models, but I don't think he's gaming as much as he used to. I think he spends most of his free time working on maps and such! Wow, CC3 is a lot easier to use than previous versions of CC. And it makes better looking maps into the bargain. ![]() My CD copy finally arrived today, including a small printed manual. I find it much easier to learn my way around a new program with the manual in hand*. I am even tempted to use the miniature scale map option, not for important areas, but rather for those areas that I design in advance, then drop down when needed. I create a few generic thives guilds, temples, watch stations, and other buildings that I might need on the fly well ahead of time, and pull them out when needed. The players are impressed with how far in advance I know that they are likely to make a raid on the hideout of the Scarlet Hand.... ![]() The Auld Grump *Akin to a bachelor cooking with the box in hand so he can read the directions. |

Looking at Dungeon Designer 3... it is going for more than I paid for CC3! Yikes. Some nice capabilities, but if I spend that much it will be on City Designer 3 first.... ![]() The Auld Grump |

I did sign up for their monthly subscription. The first two 'issues' were incredible, the one for March less so (I can't even use part of it since I do not have DD3, though I gather they are hammering out a work around). January: Mercator style maps - since my homebrew is ca. 1600s these are just the ticket! Of course that means redrawing my world map yet again, but I think that this will be the last time. ![]() February: John Speed city map style pack. Very nice 'hand sketched' look, again period for my homebrew, but nice for any period - I have seen modern tourist maps that are similar in appearance. March: So far my only disappointment. A map of an inn and a few new fill patterns. Since I use for my pubs and inns this one was a bit of a waste for me. April: The preview for April looks... interesting. Based on Sarah Wroot's maps this set is very... colorful. ![]() The Auld Grump |

I own every CC2 product but the WWII Atlas and Character Artist. As soon as I get some more money then CC3 and all of the newer stuff will be mine!!! MUHAHAHAHAHA Right now I'm trying to organize my symbol files from my old computer to the new one. I don't want to miss any as I have quite a few symbols that I purchased. CC3 looks wonderful. I really can not wait to try it. |

I am printing stuff for tonight's game as I type, so I am going to be a bit short, but.... One of the features in Page Plus that I thought I would never use has just turned out to be one of the most useful features. It has a tray to keep graphics in for reference, and for adding to documents. When I got PP 12 I thought that I don't use graphics much, so while it was nifty I would never use it. I forgot that maps are graphics.... ![]() The Auld Grump, last page printing and then I run..... |
