Well, I've been sitting on a copy of Inns and Pubs that I purchased over a year ago, trying to get up the gumption to put it together for a swashbuckling game. Got tons of Old Glory Musketeer minis for just such a game as well, but they need to be painted also. What was really keeping me from stepping up was a fun set of swashbuckling rules to play with. Well, I printed out my first page from the Inns and Pubs set, and tonight will be priming some of my musketeers, because I finally found a really fun set of rules on the Eureka miniatures web site. Free download, four pages long, but very cinematic. Has anyone else used these? |

I also scanned the rules and read through the examples... it does seem fairly straight forward and fun. I don't have the experience with the other games CCotD mentioned, so I'll defer to his wisdom. Nothing wrong with simularities between games though, IMO. Arabin |

I think number four was "Rob a bank". Does anyone know of a variation on these rules (or something else) that could be used for swashbuckling? I would love to have a pirate rumble... but although pirates are cool... I'm not too interested in ship sailing... These rules might be able to be used with very little changes, just adding in actions of swinging on ropes, chandeliers, etc. Arabin |

Well, there are cityships that float very slowly on the Black Atlantic... those are made up on numerous ships welded together to create one massive city... There is also Atlantis itself, which is partially submerged... Is that was you mean? Arabin |

Musketeers and Pirates! Why has no-one has yet mentioned Flashing Blades, and its High Seas supplement? Its a clunky system but with the most incredible research, detail and insight into a historical period in all of RPGs to date. It's old but appears to be still available at DriveThruRPG: This guy has some good links: Edited to add a link to the granddaddy of all PBM games; En Garde! |

Simple set of rules for Pirates and just about any other period is Blood and Swash/Thunder and Plunder. The authors did Gaslight VSF rules as well as several others. This is actually 2 sets in one - small team combat, or groups of 10. Look at Brigadegames.com for them. I created samurai units with these rules, as well as pirates for just plain bar room brawling or working the Maiden. Also, I mentioned some time back using chandeliers with the IW/P&I set by taking thin but strong pieces of wire to stretch across the room, suspending some sort of chandelier from it that the folks can swing from. A good example of a chandelier might be a ships wheel from the Maiden set. |

Flashing blades was the most uninteresting game for a very fun period. My banker is 8th level and can count in french as well as latin!!! ![]() The combat system was just silly. I killed an entire party duelling in defiance of the edicts! They rushed a party of swiss guards and wound up on the recieving end of most of the regiment ![]() |
