After tinkering with Piquet's Napoleonic module, Les Grognards, I have decided to move on to their WW1 module and their Vietnam era module. The latter one requires either the WW1 or WW2 module, I assume for the sequence cards or something, and since I still prefer skirmish gaming for WW2, I decided this would be a good time to get into the First World War ground combat. I want to run a mini Cambrai battle, the first use of the tank. And, running the armored cars around the deserts of North Africa sounds interesting as well. There are so many vehicles used in WW1, but since they were used somewhere outside the Western Front, nobody ever hears about them.

The Vietnam era module, Forgotten Heros, just sounds cool. I will plan on sticking with 6mm for now, so I can use my armored cav platoon, and the 1/300 scale Phantom I bought years ago and never painted up. The module even has rules for riverine combat, so I can do some SEAL insertions and pickups with my RAG boats. Sounds like it will be the perfect system for me to try out the period. I am reading a history right now of the first Marine battle of the Vietnam period, Chu Lai, just outside of Danang. Quite a story. It should also make a good scenario for Forgotten Heros.

Funny you mention Les Grognards, because the Web-Grognards helped them with that suppliment. Bob Jones did all sorts of great things for the Web Grognards in return, including giving kudos to so many of us players, so that was a really nice deal.

I think one of the WGrogs still runs a Piquet online campaign. You'd have to go look, because it's been awhile since I've been active over there.

Well, with the new Forgotten Heroes rules for Vietnam, I had to have troops, and with my own economics what they are, I chose to start off with GHQ 1/285 micro armor troops. I saw the NVA (North Vietnam Army) packs at the local game store and was thrilled with the level of details on these little guys. I went ahead and built a company of the NVA (for under $20) and then ordered the US Air Cav outfit with 60 troops, 6 Hueys and 1 Kiowa, and also ordered the Huey gunship pack (all for under $40 - cant do that in 28mm!), and I am totally astounded with these guys. The Radio Transmitter Operator is cast bending over a map, one hand pointing at the map, the other holding the handset, and strapped to the back of his PRC radio is a bunch of smoke grenades. All of the figures are great, although the mix is missing an important weapon in the m-79 grenade launcher, but the assault shotguns will be easy enough to modify. If you havent seen GHQ's minis lately, take a look. I have some of their first Infantry figures from the mid '70s, and they look more like stick people compared to these new ones. Just amazing. Now I just need to shrink Skull Cove to use as Vietnam terrain.....

2 more Piquet modules made it under the Christmas tree this year - Jump or Burn, the WW1 air combat rules, and Band of Brothers, the medieval rules set. More gaming goodness for upcoming years!
