I personally don't like the Serenity RPGs system. Its a bit clunky. But I love the universe. We're playing a Firefly game right now, using the Serenity RPG for background material, but using the Savage Worlds rules. Apart from last night's blown compression coil, its working out well. ![]() |

There are many that have come and gone over the years. Right now my choice is But if you want something quick and easy, my all time favorite was . The game was based on a d100 and was pretty simple but had a nice rich background. Another goody is . This was the original SCI-FI RPG and is still available though nothing new has come out in quite a while. Based on d6, there are 3 different variants of the game based on the type of scenerios you want to play. This game has the most rich background of any SCI-FI game I have played. Hope this helps. Hmmm, if you do not want actual space combat then I would recommend Spycraft 2.0. Heck, I have considered doing Serenity using the SC rules. Mind you I am a tad biased - I have been running a steam era Spycraft 2.0 game for a while on a bi-weekly basis. Because of St. Patrick's Day I was not able to run my normal bi-weekly Spycraft game this week. I am visiting my folks, and bringing a DVD of Darby O'Gill & the Little People to watch with them. My father just got out of the hospital. (Like many others his age who were in the military he got exposed to asbestos fibers.) The Stargate RPG actually uses the Spycraft rules, so mixing in stuff from SC is no problem at all, at all. I do not hate Savage Worlds, but I like a lot more detail in my games than it provides. The only part I really hate is the rules for Weird Science, and since I bought the game for running a steampunk game you can guess how that annoys me. There is a new version of the Babylon 5 RPG coming out soon, this time as a stand alone game using the OGL rather than the D20 license. They have also recently released rules for merchants in the game. (First Light would make a nice light trader, eh? ![]() The Auld Grump |

I am, and ever will be, a fan of the old Star Wars Roleplaying Game (West End, not Wizards), so I would recommend that. That and TORG (also out of print West End). -Polycarp |
