Post subject: | Judge Dredd: Gangs of Mega-City One |
I am completely hooked on this game, and it's the reason I got into WWG in the first place, although now I have Rezolution to use the terrain as well. Anyway, I was just wondering if there are any other players of this game out there, or even if you have heard of the game? Judge Dredd is a household name in the UK having been in the weekly 2000AD comic for nearly 30 years, and having his own monthly Megazine for just over 15 years now. Unfortunately, in America he is either unheard of or known by the Stallone film. The film was okay, but ignoring the major flaws with consistency and the fact that the Stallone Dredd took his helmet off, the film went with a dark, violent, Blade Runner style Mega-City One. That is just one aspect, and it missed the fun, quirky, weird and wacky version of the city that is seen in the light of day. So, anyone else play? Link to the game's site: Arabin |

A gamer friend of mine bought the boxed set. But he's never invested any time to learn to play it. I did pour through the bits. And Mayhem puts it to shame. But I it is cool that they did inclusd some primitive city parts, street tiles and a car or two. So how is the game? Does it compare well to Necromunda, Urban War, Street fight, or Chain Reaction? (Just throwing out systems I'm familiar with to form some basis for comparison) ~Floyd |

I agree that the cardstock models that come in the box set are not great, and really look poor beside WWG, but you did get everything in the box to play immediately... except for a tape measure. I hadn't played any miniature games before, but this is very easy to pick up and play. The game is fast and brutal, but very fun. I even got my wife to play! Demos of the game only take about 30 minutes to an hour to run, and every game seems to surprise me. In a game a few weeks ago, my wife tossed a handbomb (grenade) at one of my Juves and my dice betrayed me. My Juve effectively caught the bomb in his teeth. One less juve. While it is in no way required, I know I get more enjoyment from the game due to being a fan of Judge Dredd since I was a little nipper. The price of the boxed set dropped a few months back so it's a really good buy now. Arabin |

Personally, I think it's fantastic. I haven't played in a large campaign, but hae done it with a small number of players each playing multiple gangs, and we loved it. I prefer open ended campaigns so we keep going as long as we like, but you can easily set it to a certain number of fights each, or length of time, etc. When a gang wins a fight, they might get a lot more powerful, sometimes only a little, but in a campaign one or two gangs will get way ahead of the others. It's not a problem though, as there are scenarios to take care of that... or alternatively, you could challenge the tough gang and call the judges on them. This is almost guaranteed to bring them down to a more manageable size. After a campaign fight, you gain new turf, deal with long term effects of injuries, gain additional traits, collect money from your turfs, etc. There is so much more to the game in a campaign. Sorry if this is a little rambling... need more coffee ![]() Arabin |

Glad to hear you might be picking up the game. With the reduction in price of the box set it's really a steal now. I haven't really played many miniature games before so I can't compare it to much. I do know that it's a lot more simplistic and easy to pick up than Rezolution... which itself isn't that tough. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to answer them. It works on a you go, I go kind of game, but it doesn't feel limiting at all. Depending on your skills and tactics, you can activate a different number of models in your turn... not all of them... and ones that are not activated go on alert status, so there are interrupts during the other players turn. I will point out though, that it's gang warfare. You can't play the judges as a gang. The judges get called in when you are challenged by a gang that is too tough, then you get to play the judges and beat the c*&p out of your opponent, before issueing your own challenge ![]() It's a lot of fun... you'll love it if you used to read the comic. Nothing wrong with liking the film... it wasn't actually that bad and is good to give an inkling into the world of Judge Dredd. It's just a shame that they screwed with so many things to force it to work. Most of the plot cannot happen due to other events in the world that already happened... and it was basically too "Hollywood". Good film, but for fans of Dredd, it was painful in places. I'm trying not to start ranting about all the problems, again ![]() Oh, and the Ape Gang in GOMC1 is the coolest ever. What can possibly be cooler than chimps in leather jackets and shades, wielding guns? Only one thing. Chimps in leather jackets and shades, wielding guns while standing on the Streets of Mayhem of course! Arabin |

I have bought a few of the figures to use in other games, the Street Gang Set has some intersting bits to use as for customizing of figures, and you can make some generics for other games out of them. |

I haven't bought any of the Wargames Foundry stuff, so I can't answer that. What I can say is that is looks fine alongside the Urban War or VOID 1.1 militia miniatures as I have a whole bunch of those. I also have a couple of the modern range by RAFM as part of the Call of Cthulhu series. I also rebase a lot of heroclix miniatures for extra punks and juves... and a lot of those fit nicely with the GOMC1 range. I have a couple of the EM-4 punks and they look a tiny bit large, but not too large. They match well with the larger Heroclix and with the Citi-Def pack I mentioned earlier. I remember seeing a size comparison recently for a bunch of ranges... but I can't seem to find it now. I think it was either on the Hasslefree site, or Heresy... but I can't see it there now. It didn't include GOMC1 but it had a lot of the popular ranges. I hope that helps. Arabin |

Thanks Arabin, helps a lot since I too own some Urban War mini's. As I stated in my previous post, I'm hoping that other gamers will be able to shed some light. Thanks again! CCotD' |

Woohoo, another convert! If you have any questions, let me know. I used to run demos for the game and love it. Did you order anything else with the box set or just the game itself? Arabin |

Muwahaha, I'll have this whole board playing the game before long ![]() Actually, I'm sure Mr. Blackhammer and CCotD will give their impressions of the game once they have had a chance to play it... and I've no doubt they will love the game. Perhaps there is hope for the themed set from WWG in the future? Arabin |

8K unpainted minis!?!?! I thought I was bad, but that's a little excessive. I don't feel so bad anymore, so thanks ![]() I wish I did get kick backs from the sales of GOMC1, but alas, I do not. I used to demo it and gain credit with Mongoose for running demos in stores and at cons, but that's different, and I haven't done that since I moved. The minis will be usable in other games, but I really think you will like the rules when you get playing. I'd recommend starting out with just the main rule book and human gangs so you get a feel for the rules, before moving on to Ape Gangs and the other goodies included in Death on the Streets. Arabin |
