Hmmm, ProFantasy is coming out with soon, and it has been added to my 'Must Buy' list. I have always been a sucker for mapping programs. I still use Dungeon Crafter 1 and 2, though the web site is now vanished away, Izandwo/MapX/Dew Map (another that has gone *Poof!*), Fractal Mapper 7 (and used 5 and 6 as well) for overland and city maps, a bit of Dungeon Forge just to play with it, and the rosettes feature from Auto Realm. Mind you, some of that mapping is for the sheer joy of it, and only about a third of my maps generally see use. Most used are the old Dungeon Crafter programs and Fractal Mapper. What do other people use when worldbuilding/scenario creating/just phutzing around? The Auld Grump |

I bought Dundjini a while ago. I like it alot. Someone recently released an ISOView map pack. Which is really cool. I have an older version of Fractal Mapper too. It was fun to tinker around with. ~Floyd |

I use DJ as well. Its easily the best out there. However, it is written in java (poorly, I gather) and is a memory hog, so if you don't have plenty of RAM and a decent processor, you'll probably have the same experience as the Grump. However, there is a ton of free user art available (and more everyday as that community is expanding - and in truth there is more free user art available than commercial art), and the revised license allows for commercial use of DJ maps when not using Fluid's art (or other copywritten art, like the cartoony SKG pack). My biggest complaint about DJ is that the initial map size is fixed, and that is just poor design. Happily, they added a function (likely a hack) to let you change the scale of the map, so its not as limited as it used to be - but to do a truly large scale map, you still need to do multiple maps and make sure the edges align properly. I love putting WWG terrain on my DJ created maps. Makes for a really impressive gaming board. ![]() |

And apparently CC3 will be able to use symbols designed for DJ. ![]() The Auld Grump |

I read the new CC3 pages yesterday. If they truly did improve the interface as well as the graphics (and I consider that the biggest factor), I will certainly give it a try. It does strike me as a much better tool for campaign level maps, especially with its CAD scaling capabilities. |
