I resently picked up Star Mogul - Ruins of an Empire by Alpha Forge Games.


I have to say I was pretty darn impressed by the system. It is a campaign miniature game that has players starting up their own space faring Salvage Company. You start up your Company, hire your crew and go out searching for salvage. The system reminds me alot of Necromunda, as you can increase your crews stats and equipment with each salvage operation

The system doesn't have any custom rules for creating your own races (Although taking the basics and tweeking them, I have created an Ork Salvage Crew that seems balanced) it does have lots of interesting campaign stuff.

Mars Station and First Light are really made for this system, since each Salvage company starts with their own Starship and the Mars Station Crawler is great for hauling your Salvage back to your drop zone.

You can use the Alpha Forge Miniatures, but in the games I have played - my crews have been made up of Void, Rezolution, Iron Kingdom and GW models.

If you are looking for some gritty story telling on the Outer Rim of Space - Star Mogul is the game.

The campaign system sounds interesting. And I like the premise alot. If it is indeed similar to Necromunda or atleast play as well or better then it will be a fun system.

I liked the vehicles and droids, but I wasn't too keen on some of the bipedal models.

Very intersting.

I'll wait to read some more feedback from you, or for some reviews to appear. But $15pdf download is pretty reasonable.

I think I have a serious issue :oops:, I seem to own more games than I have time to play. :roll:. I also own more miniatures than I have time to paint. :sad:. But I really like the . Just look at the robot..... hmm hmm. that looks good. Of course I can't wait till the Rezolution bots come out too 8) .

Thanks for bringing this to my attention again. Can't wait for your reviews.

CCotD... same here... I own probably almost ten wargames, and only play two on a regular basis. I just call all of mine "research" so I don't feel bad. :D

Star Mogul looks pretty interesting. The campaign system looks like a lot of fun! You get to make your own "boss" character, complete with silly flaws and advantages (Drunkard, etc). Can't wait to get a game on!

In the email I got, the creator said they're posting an updated version in a few days which should improve the layout. (Free to everyone who owns it, natch)

I'll be sure to write a review as soon as I get the chance. i should have enough proxy figures lying around....
