Wow I just saw this the They are making a RPG of the Serenity/Firefly galaxy, I guess it was at GenCon but this is the first i heard of it... Man i think i'm going to pick it up even if I don't play it, just to see what they did with it. |

They made a system that is uncomfortably close to Savage Worlds, right down to converting "rerolls" (forgot their name) into experience at the end of a session. Shane even joked about it at GenCon saying, "Ya know, they could have asked." It does make for a pretty good generic sci-fi game. It doesn't have anything mechanically that makes it feel "Firefly" but it's a nice rules light system. Well, other than their spaceship treatment. Essentially, you buy "edges" & "hindrances" (forgot what they call them) for your ship which makes it it's own character. I dig that. ![]() I'm not a big Firefly fan, but there are enough nods to the show and movie in the game to make it a worthwhile buy for fans. You can run the same type of game with a lot of other systems. |

I never played Savage worlds or looked at the system, but since I am more interested to see the take on the show/movie stuff i wonder if i will like it, the nods are what i am interested in and seeing what they did with it, i hope there are enough to make it worth checking out. |

I don't think it was geared towards either. It doesn't have a lot of information about the backstory (almost nothing about Earth-That-Was) and that part will be disappointing to either casual or devoted fan. I have a feeling that a lot was left open so as not to contrain Joss and Co in the future. For example, the RPG has a list of most of the planets and moons in the universe (including all the Core planets), but doesn't list which moons orbit which planet, or in what order they were settled, or anything like that. Considering how fluid they need the universe to be at the moment (in case of the movie being a smash and the option for more being exercised), I can understand that. I don't like that facet of the RPG (I wanted much more about the universe and backstory), but I can live with it for now. It tooks years for the Star Wars and Trek universes to get filled out, so I guess I'll give the Firefly uni a little while, too. ![]() If you're looking into buying the Finding Serenity book, don't get it for the backstory - it ain't got none. Its a fun read nontheless, and has lots of fun information about the people and events behind the show, but you'll be disappointed if you're looking for anything about the actual universe. |

Yeah i saw that one "Finding Serenity: Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly" and was thinking about getting it, the one I was more interested in getting was "Serenity: The Official Visual Companion" From the Amazon thingy "Fascinating production and background memos by Whedon, including ‘A Brief History of the Universe, circa 2507 A. D.’ Scores of stunning movie stills, storyboards and pieces of production art." I am hoping that the A Brief History of the Universe, circa 2507 A. D. and the background memos, will do a lot to fill in some of the Fluff. It was the books like that with all of those tid bits production art and fun things like that i have loved in Star Wars, they are the things that really filled in the fluff and added a new level. And i got to admit i love a lot of those SW books like the Visual dictionaries etc for SW and this see,s like it may be like it. And even if i don't Run the RPG there may be some ideas to steal from it for other games. |

D'oh! I knew that, too! ![]() Um... a bus? Carp. Sucks to have to wait for the DVD. However, there is good news... I just saved a ton of money by switching to Geico! ...sorry. Actually, according to , Serenity is due out on DVD on December 20th! Speculation and rumors, but likely ones. I agree that they'll want to get it out in time for Christmas shopping. |
