When last I attempted a D&D campaogn with the kids, we were using Swords & Wizardry White Box Edition and a variety of supplements. As the campaign developed, it became increasingly Celtic in flavour, and classes began to change. Eventually I realized there was no healing magic or turning undead, which left no real reason to have the Cleric class. Druids were split into Bards, Judges, and Seers, reflecting their historical roles and also relegated to NPC status. Celtic society was largely rural, leaving no opportunity for a professional Thief as usually described. Basically, I was left with Fighters and Magic users. So what I have done is allow characters to either use the Thief skills, or have a +1 to either hit or damage at levels 1, 5, and 10. This choice must be made at character creation, and cannot be changed later. So you could play a fighter who is a bit of a treasure hunter, or a magic user that is better than expected with his staff once the spells run out. Anyways, I just thought I would share. Have a great day. |

I saw your posts and it made my day. It's good to see kids using their imaginations. My Grandkids when they were young I actually still have my red and blue books DnD and we played that for a few years. Now I have a new crop of grands and they love the post apocalypse sooo I decided to home brew up that old engine again. bought some mayhem and deadfall sets and a building me and the wife begin. |
