That's an interesting idea. I hadn't thought of it. I can see that spiraling my anal-retentiveness out of control as I try 50 different colors of cardstock, though.

Anyone know of a papercraft model that gives the look of an evil castle? Most of the ones I've seen so far look like the classic Medieval castle with crenelations. There are a few older sets here that give an evil look, but clearly are built more for a dungeon than a castle or keep. I'm looking to build something for DnD that is meant to look intimidating and wicked. And I want it to look that way on the outside, as well as in the interior. |

I can hear you. I have been searching for that some months ago and I finally went with a kitbash of the FDG castle. I created a new wall texture which kinda looks like Castle Grayskull from the old MOTU toys (dark and green-ish). Then I retextured all the pieces that I need. I think you could do the same with CWU. |

Thanks for the tip. Honestly, I've been thinking of kitbashing Lair of the Dragon God to make it into more of a castle style. I like how dark the walls are in that set and I think it's got potential. |

The Lord Zsezse Works (closed) has a Dark Texture (3/4 of the way down the page) that will be superb for this, but delivery is taking much longer than expected. If you need something sooner, you can get a similar effect by printing on colored cardstock or, if you're proficient with Photoshop or the GIMP, changing the pdf colors to a much darker look. For the sinister details, add Hellworks and Cathedrae props. |

Yeah, I figured someone would mention Lord Zsezse's campaign. I backed it heavily, but it sounds like it's going to take many months more before the set is complete. I'd like something much sooner. Plus, it sounded like his set will only be released in 1" grid. I tend to use a 1.5" grid 'cuz too many miniatures do not fit into 1" squares like they should. I was recently looking at Cathedrae Noctis and trying to figure out if I could convert it to a TLX-based version that would work for a keep or castle. |

You could try the colored cardstock approach. I did a build some years ago using blue cardstock that gave the terrain and buildings a ghostly, realm-of-the-dead feel. |

You may want to consider stealing pieces of CATHEDRAE NOCTIS for this... There is some good features that could get added on to most any castle you build to make this much more Evil... |

I agree with using Cathedrae Noctis. Either as the primary source, or as additions to existing models. Gothic Realms also serves well as a source for parts - The Auld Grump |
