I feel out of touch on this one.... I mentioned at work (not at a game - at work) that I was probably skipping this one, and got a response of 'Giantslayer?! Like the old adventures from way back when?! I'm there!' This from a person that wasn't even born when the old Against the Giants series came out. Likewise, folks at the game, Megan and I not withstanding, are highly enthused. Five out of seven people are happy as clams with the idea. Kind of like the response that the Mummy's Mask received. (I still have not read that path - I still want to play, not run it. ![]() Is nostalgia that powerful? That it effects people that weren't even around to get nostalgic? On the other hand, I remember on incident in the kids game - when a giant was going 'Fee... Fi... Fo... Fum... I smell the blood of a mortal one....' Three of the kids laughed, and two others got scared - they realized what they were facing wasn't just a giant - it was a legend. The Auld Grump. though I think that the original Fee Fi Fo Fum was from Shakespeare's Childe Roland line in King Lear..... |

I'm hoping that nostalgia still runs strong (the force is strong with this one): I hear that Paul Neurath is working on an online reboot/rework of the Ultimate Underworld classic computer games. A Kickstarter is supposed to be announced soon-ish. I'm hoping it gets richly funded -- it would be neat to have a shiny new title in that franchise. Steve |

The only thing that irritates me about "Giantslayer" is the name. Could it be more unimaginitive? I mean, how tough would be it to come up with something more creative and sophisticated than "Gaintslayer?" It ranks right up there with "Big K-Mart" and "Super Target." Are we all a bunch of dumb rednecks now? |

I ran across a thread on another forum, questioning whether the timing of Giantslayer coming out at the same time as the new Bones giant figures was purely coincidence.... Considering that the Adventure Path has been in the works for a year or so... I would have to say that, yes, yes it is.... On the other hand, having inexpensive giants for the Path is certainly convenient.... ![]() And some of the most used are already available. The Auld Grump, who still wants to be a player in The Mummy's Mask.... |

I just can't get up for this one. It's just, well a bunch if forced encounters with big dumb humans.... What am I missing? |

That's why I'm blaming nostalgia. ![]() On the other hand... running around killing big dumb humanoids* may be cathartic. Pathfinder adventures usually engage the mind - maybe folks are looking forward to putting their brains on a shelf, and going out to kill giants? And, of course, it would be an excuse to paint up and use all of those Bones Giants that I have from the Kickstarter.... Hmmm... the last time I had an adventure where giants were a major antagonist was years ago - set on my world's analog to Iceland. It began when I got one of the McFarlane Dragons, and then came up with a reason why it's wings were in tatters.... Tortured and lamed by frost giants - and he isn't one of the bad guys.... The Auld Grump * Mind you, most of the giants in Pathfinder have average intelligence - ogres and hill giants not withstanding. |

The Player's Guide is available now. ![]() No big surprises, aside from a lot of plugs for Pathfinder Player Companion: Giant Hunter’s Handbook - but that should not have surprised me - they did much the same for Carrion Crown and other APs. They strongly suggest that Rangers choose Humanoid (Giant) as a favored enemy, and Mountains as a favored terrain. I wonder why that would be.... And one of the illustrations looks suspiciously like a giant beanstalk.... And, for some reason, I have this urge to watch the movie Troll Hunter. (A really stupid movie - I have watched it three times already. ![]() The Auld Grump |

I had a subscription to the Player's Companion, but I canceled it the day I got the Giant Hunter's Handbook. It has some nice options in it, but I felt that it was cheaply done. The last few pages of it have the campaign traits for the Giantslayer AP on them. Those were going to be printed in the free Player's Guide, so why did they print it in a product that we have to pay for? I was pissed at that. Plus, most of those Companion products just don't seem to be worth the price. |

That doesn't make sense to me. Campaign Traits from APs or even the APG aren't allowed in Pathfinder Society at all. This is from the latest Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play: Your character’s choice of faction opens up additional trait choices presented in Chapter 4 of this guide. These faction traits count as campaign traits— in effect, they are the campaign traits for Pathfinder Society Organized Play. No other campaign traits from any source are legal for characters to choose. The Addition Resources Guide allows the OTHER traits from Giant Hunter's Handbook to be used, but not the Campaign Traits. |

Ah, that makes more sense, then. I still think it odd that folks wanted the free content printed in the paid book. But some folks are odd. Thanks for clarifying that, Grump. |

I really am excited about this AP, partly for the nostalgia and partly because I have wanted a more classical themed adventure for my son's first AP. I feel some of the recent APs have that "Jumped the Shark" kind of feel to them. Sometimes you just gotta take care of the orcs and giants. |

Okay, that's weird - Megan tells me that most of the people asking about Giantslayer at BaM! are young - teens and twenties. Way too young to be having nostalgia for adventures written a decade and more before they were even born.... What the heck is up with that? The Auld Grump |

I made the mistake of mentioning Giantslayer to the group that plays at the dry bar.... Looks like I will be running it, whether I really want to or not. ![]() Ah, well... that's what Bones minis were invented for.... The Auld Grump |

BI would be interested in knowing how the first adventure is once you read through it. It's been strangely quiet about that module on the net. |
