I have had the Advanced Class Guide for Pathfinder for a while now, but until today I hadn't taken much time to look at it, beyond the Swashbuckler. (I like Swashbucklers, Duelists, Gunslingers, and the Magus.... there may be a common theme there....)
Under Gunslinger was a section that I had not seen, called Dares.
Dares are awesome! Kicking in when you are out of Grit (Gunslinger) or Panache (Swashbuckler) - they give a bonus for when the chips are down, and help to replenish the associated pool when the right conditions are met.
In particular is a Dare titled Run Like Hell - you get to keep your Dexterity bonus to AC when Running the Hell Away. And, once you get at least 100 feet away from the enemy you get back a point of Grit or Panache.
All that I could think was 'Big Damn Heroes'.... For some reason that Dare reminds me of Mal from the show Serenity.
That... is a Dare for scoundrels.
Oh, Swashbuckler does look like a fun class, and adding a bit of scoundrel... brings the class closer to its roots, I think. The kind of character that might carelessly agree to duels with three full fledged members of the Musketeers on the same afternoon. (Yes, I do think of D'Artagnan was a scoundrel, as was Athos and Arramis... Porthos... maybe not so much.)
