Post subject: | [Miniatures] Dioramas? |
I am just past the planning stages of a diorama - the main components are Wyrmgear the Clockwork Dragon, Rosie the Chronotechnician, and Andre Durand the Time Chaser, all from Reaper Miniatures: Facing off against sundry Greatcoat Troopers from Wargames Factory: In some Gothic Building Ruins from Imex: Basing is going to be vinyl cobblestones from the Lemax Christmas line, on a wooden plaque. (Silly as it sounds, this last was the hardest part to get - I should have picked some up at Christmas time, but I wasn't thinking about dioramas at that point. For an idea of what thoughts were going through my head as I planned the beasty out - I was listening to Firefly while scribbling away.... I am picturing two valiant heroes either stealing the dragon from the Troopers, or possibly defending the dragon from the Trenchers that are trying to steal it. I may mount magnets in the base of the dragon so that it may be removed from the base for use, but all the others will be permanent fixtures. So, my question is... Has anyone else done dioramas, and what are they of? The Auld Grump |

Keeping the layout simple - the ruins are set up as an L, with two of the troopers in cover. The dragon is between the heroes and the bad guys (Not attacking, facing the wrong way, maybe with Andre using it as cover.) Rosie is furthest from the action, and a street light balances the scene. (My original plan was to have it illuminated, but there is not enough space if I want to add a battery pack.) The painting on the dragon has begun - plate armor spray primer from The Army Painter,Reaper gold detailing, Reaper scorched metal, adamantine, and blued metal for the stacks. Thinking about adding smoke for the stacks, perhaps wool that has been dyed black? Or maybe some Armorcast plumes, if any look like a good fit? I am hoping that getting some terrain type modeling in will inspire me to start on more WWG material - in particular I want another Maiden. (My last build was the cabin from the Maiden, done up as a throne room for a villain named Devargo in Korvossa. ) Also... I really need to paint more Bones.... The Auld Grump |

Speaking of Bones and Dioramas, I'm planning on turning one of my Dragons Don't Share sets into a diorama once the Bones 2 stuff arrives. I may even add in a breath weapon effect for the Dragon if I can find something I really like (or find a guide for making something that looks really good) before then. |

Just saw the title opening sequence for the Elder Scrolls Online while over at my friend's place and was struck with the singular 'white' tower in the background. Wanna build to ceiling height... (Wonder if I could build a lightsource into it for a corner floor lamp... ultimate cross of papercraft and functionality!) |

I am shocked -OFFENDED- that you are not using the superior WWG tools at your disposal for this project. It's like I don't even know who you are any more. /goes to pout in the corner |

I think I have a diorama, and more in progress, depending on how pedantic you want to get with your definitions of "diorama" and "vignette". http://thoughtengine.deviantart.com/art ... -401906212 More to come, especially since I cannot think of anything else to do with certain large scenic bases (I do not have battle engines nor colossals). |
