Hmmm, Reaper has a Huge Red Dragon miniature as part of their Pathfinder (and Pathfinder Bones) miniatures lines - And now Wizkids is readying a Huge Red Dragon for their Pathfinder Battles line - Unlike many previous releases Wizkids and Reaper did not base their miniatures on the same illustrations. The Reaper Red is $15 in plastic, $40 in metal, neither painted. The Wiz Kids Red is the largest of three prepainted dragons in a $40 boxed set. (Medium, Large, and Huge.) The other two dragons - Medium (a reissue of the Large Red Dragon from Rise of the Runelords on a smaller base.) (A new sculpt.) Huge Red Dragon from the D&D Miniatures line for comparison - I prefer the Reaper figure, at least in Bones - in metal... I would likely choose the Wizkids model, since I would be getting three dragons for the same price. The WotC one... I have unpainted from a boxed game, and it is actually pretty decent. Which one do most folks prefer? The Auld Grump |

I like the pose on the Reaper. The WK one is a bit...static looking. More bestial than dragon-y to me. D&D mini is a nice balance of the two. |

I like the WotC one best, and the Reaper one next, not fond of the Wizkids one. |

I am with Kane on this one. Reaper takes it here. Although, the Wizkids one has a certain appeal to it that I think comes from the look of the spines on the neck and tail. |

The odd thing is that they all look like they are different ages and/or genders to me - with the Reaper dragon as the youngest male, and the WotC one as a more mature male. The Wizkids one looks female to me - maybe because it does not look like it is posturing, just going from one place to another. The Auld Grump |

I could see that. The Wizkids one gives a more slicked back head style. Less harsh and jagged. That reads as more feminine to me. |

The Reaper one is tons better, but that's not a fair comparison. You're comparing a hand painted mini to cheaper, mass produced, mass painted plastic minis. |

![]() ---- I also just received my white dragon evolutions. They're pretty sweet. If anything, the evolutions are an awesome packaged deal. Three for $30, but you know exactly what you're getting when you get it. |

While every example you gave begs for a decent paint job, I kind of like the Wiz Kids dragon pose best. I do like the pose of the Reaper dragon, even the DDM dragon has it's appeal. The Reaper dragon will have awesome detail as is customary for the brand, the DDM dragon will lack any real detail which is apparent even with the low quality photo. The largest of the Wiz Kids dragon seems to have good detail, while the other two seem to lack much detail. Having to pick a dragon? I would have to give my money to Reaper if only because of quality, I can paint better than the example if I have to. |

Scary but I find I like the wotc dragon better then the reaper one. Not that I would turn down either of them if someone brought them to my table. Not impressed with the wiz kids ones. |

The Reaper has a better action pose. I still like, better, the WotC Huge Red Dragon (which I own quite a few of knowing they were going to be worth more $$ one day). Hows the quality of the Pathfinder Pre-paints? same as the old WotC ones or better (egads, not worse?!?) |

I think I like the Wizkids best. Certainly when you factor in thats its prepainted and the price. There is just something slightly off about the reaper one to me. Something about the fingers and toes maybe and something with the head. I wouldn't mind having it. But I just spend a lot of time looking at it trying to see whats wrong with it. I straight up dislike the WotC dragon as well as all the other red and green dragons. Well, the medium red isn't awful, but it seems kind of cartoony. I think some of the Mcfarlane dragons are some of the best designed, most original, and best prepainted figures I've ever seen. I really really wish they had come out with the miniature reissues they announced. |

More boggling is the difference between Gargantuan Blue Dragons - WotC Big Head Blue.... WizKids - Da Blue widda Bling! (A character model, not a generic Blue - and looks it.) Reaper - Stormwing - What I hope will be The Blue In The Bones.... Of them I like the Reaper Stormwing the best by far - but it is not yet out in plastic. The spikes on its back are almost like coral. The Auld Grump |

Does stormwing come on that base or is that someones custom? Its a great base. I don't care for the WotC blue. Definitely the head, the bottom jaw and ears. BUt the wizkidz one is interesting. It would work well with mageknight pyramid stuff I have. I should really pull those out and build something now that Matt finished Pharaohs descent. |

Someone's custom. ![]() I have Stormwing in metal - sculpted by Sandra Garrity - one of Reaper's best dragons. The Auld Grump |

i've voted reaper but.... that's for the beauty of the mini per se it's more plastic and artistic and gives a sense of motion BUT it's unpratical for gaming purposes! |

I have mine mounted on a three inch base - which is standard for a Huge figure in Pathfinder - there is some overlap in most directions, but not much. PC figures can get into base to base contact pretty easily - I can surround the base with humie gits, elves, dwarfs, etc. Might be a bigger problem on a round base - but since I also play fantasy wargames, and I have a quart box of square masonite 3x3 bases... not a problem. The Auld Grump - on the table whether the base is round or square does not matter. |
