...or Vaqueros. ...or Banditos. ...or Desperados. Whatever you call them, here are three of them and their chupacabra mascot. These are the first minatures I have taken from prep to finish in over two years. They will be a part of my Old West/Weird West project I am working on, which will feature some Deadfall items as well. And dinosaurs. Can't have the Old West without a triceratops or three running around... |

Thank you for the kind comments. They took less than hour each, I think. The chupacabra took about 15 minutes. I have been painting miniatures for 35 years now, and I have learned to streamline the process a little lol! My daughters have been painting their stuff, it took me about an hour to get all my paints back into their proper spot in the box. That makes it go fast, everything being right where you know it is supposed to be. |

Those are awesome for the little time spent! What process did you follow? Prime/Base color/wash? Now I want to try and speed up my painting. |

I primed them with white gesso and let them dry a few days. Then I blocked in the base colours. I normally use a shading wash that is 2 parts ink, 5 parts water, and 5 parts Future floor finish (Kleer now, I think.) However, my wash went funky, so I used a thin wash of very dark brown to shade instead. After that, I did a semi-drybrush highlight of most colors. The guns and other metal were blocked in black and highlighted in steel before washing. These figs have very little detail to pick out aside from the basic colors of the clothes, so it went pretty quickly. I am working on an American cowboy now who has buttons on his shirt and chaps, a big belt buckle, and other little details so he will probably take a little longer. If I remember I will take some WIP pics of the next one I do up. |
