A week ago or so I got the new Heroes & Legends book for Kings of War. Mostly a bunch of heroes, several for each army, but more importantly is the Ogre Army - no more do Ogres have to pretend that they are a Kingdoms of Men army.... They are interesting - their special rule is that opposing musicians do not penalize the Ogres' Nerve. Good thing, since Ogre units are somewhat small. The Ogre Warlock is tied to their Berserkers, and vice versa - with each getting a bonus for being together. There are Goblins in the Ogre army - but they are braver and less malicious than their fellow goblins. And the Red Goblins like to load up a wagon with explosives, then crash it into the enemy.... So far... I am liking the army. It will be interesting to see how it plays. The Auld Grump |

See, I saw the new humans and instantly thought Brettonians. |

I am glad the Mantic Ogres look suitably threatening and barbaric. The fatty ones from Gw just never did it for me. Even after I started playing World of Warcraft and discovered their inspiration, I didn't like them. The Mantic ones are what Ogres are supposed to look like. |

Well considering that they are called the Holy forces of Basiliea, I guess they need some. I like the different angels and paladins and I really like the Commander on the lion. I'll definitely be picking these guys up. |

Grump, on Mantic's website, I see the Ogre army list as a free download. Is that human/angel army not free? Seems to be the first one not to be. Finally found a local to play with so going to dig out my UNDEAD (never calling them Vampire Counts again!) and see what I've got. Looks like only about 1000 points, sadly... |

Thanks, Grump! If you get the chance, think you could post the Abyssal and Nature armies if you have the opportunity? I know you are busy. |

Thanks anyway, Grump! Looking forward to seeing those lists eventually. You know, I thought about it and I don't think the Basileans are an analog for Brettonia anymore. They are anti-Chaos. Their much closer in theme to Chaos than Brettonia what with the celestial presence. VERY interesting! |

Last week I saw one of the Goblin Mincers painted up.... Dang! Sweet model! I was able to pin it on my Kickstarter at the last possible second, Remember the Cleaner from Labyrinth? Yeah... like that. ![]() I am so putting one in a goblin dungeon for Pathfinder.... The Auld Grump |

I got the third shipment of my Kings of War Kickstarter pledge today - I was missing a few things, but I am very happy with what I got. One of the missing items was the same Mincer that was missing in the second shipment - the Mincers are cursed! ![]() After I saw a friend's Mincer I added a pair to my order, on top of the missing one that I was supposed to get free... in today's shipment there were two, so I am still one down, and one was missing the side scoops, part of the pilot, and an axe thing. So... a curse! The other missing item was the package of Would Counters... of all the things to be missing... that is the least crucial. ![]() Just got home and have started opening the metal pieces - the lion's jaws had escaped the baggie, and had bitten into the shipping box. The metal figures, by and large, look... fiddly. The lion and its rider have lots of smaller pieces - weapon, shield, muzzle, rider's head... I am going to need a bit of green stuff - but the fit so far is good. I think that he is going to be an awesome looking figure. (What level does a Pathfinder Paladin need to be to get a Celestial Lion as a mount?) There are two angels... again, kind of fiddly, but looks like it will be good... the female looks the harder of the two to piece together. A dwarf - one piece, not fiddly at all. ![]() A resin ogre - a few pieces, not fiddly. A... something, on a big nightmare with flaming hooves.... I have to figure out what parts are his.... A fey critter... flying - no legs, just a wisp of smoke.... Yeah... I am going to have to go over the parts more carefully, I have some bits here that go -I-don't-know-where. On to the main contents - The plastic Basilean Men at Arms... are... adequate - these are mooks, so do not need to be great. They will do double duty as city guard, I think. Folks that I can field by the dozen, and watch get cut down by the dozen. They can be done as spearmen or swordsmen - and are dressed in chain armor and helms. The faces are their best bit - there is actually some expression on their faces, and only one has his visor down. The resin knights... it looks like Mantic may have changed their resin formula - the material is darker, and the detail is crisper. Nice! The accursed Mincer... is very, very nice - if only my shipments didn't have troubles with them! ![]() I really like it. Sisters mounted on panthers... ... ... those are big panthers! Maybe a Paladin prestige class with Celestial big cats as their mounts? Either way... very nice. (I have no idea what I am going to do with them, but very nice. Abbysal Dwarf Honor Guard - evil dwarfs with big hats. I painted a commission of the metal and plastic version a ways back... not really fond of them, but I like them more than I do the current Chaos Dwarfs from GW. Stormwind Cavalry - elves on horseback. Dark Knight Cavalry - evil elves on horseback! Both are decent - I may use them for RPGs eventually, but I do not currently have an elf army of any ilk - good, evil, or woodsy. Trolls - these on the other hand! Big, stupid looking, with weapons cobbled together from scrap metal, and more scrap metal nailed to their bodies as armor... you know, trolls! ![]() I got one unit for free with the last shipment, and added two more because I liked them. More later as I continue my inventory. ![]() The Auld Grump |
