| Post subject: | DIY mushroom gas spore monster mini? |
my group is going to be fighting a clan of myconids (mushroom people) tomorrow night. I don't have any myconid mini's, so I'm either going to try to make some out of modeling clay, or just use tokens with pictures of the myconid guard mini's. The problem though is that I want to include some Myconid Gas Spore monsters in the battle....and isn't really a decent image on the Internet that I can find of a gas spore. I may just try to find a green cloud image and slap that on some card stock, but I was hoping for something a little better. Anyone have any ideas on how to make a gas spore mini? My first thought was to use some Halloween spider webbing and paint it green, but that might look crappy. Ideas?? |

found this image: That doesn't look too bad to recreate with modeling clay. Spherical floating turtle shell, carve in/out the details, add phallic spears to top, paint, drink a beer waiting for it to dry and call it a day. |

a pack of 1" or 2" styrofoam balls with sticks of some sort on the top could be a good alternative. |

oooh.. you could do something like this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/105424260/s ... r-pomander A moss ball of sorts. Get yourself some 1" styrofoam balls, and a bag of moss at the craft store, dip the ball in glue, and roll in moss. That'd be simple and effective. Edit:.. thinking about it more, use what folks use for basing materials for the miniatures from a hobby store would probably be better than moss from the craft store. |

I just googled them and the adventure I found said they are small. If you are going for that size, I would use 1/2" styrofoam balls, 1" for medium, 2" for large, etc. I like that idea the best for the time crunch. If you are really short on time, spray them green, draw two eyes with a black marker, and use toothpicks for the stalks. If you have a bit more time, hand paint them with a little more detail, or better yet roll them in glue and model moss or grass. and maybe use small pipe cleaners for the stalks so you can pose them. |

take a dried pea, mount it on a length of paperclip, mounted to a base. Dip in glue, Dip in flock of your choice. |

Have you considered just getting real white mushrooms and you know gluing them with white glue to simple plastic bases or suitable thin cardboard? Exotic mushrooms would be interesting but expensive... Enoki for kids... Morels for the gas attacks, and if you're looking for a bigger brute size, grab some Portabellos. Since you won't be painting these, you could do a little carving of faces in the stems.
