Very informative article. Confirmed much of what I have always b***ched about in regards to printers and OEM ink cartridges. ![]() The printer manufacturers have lost hundreds if not thousands of dollars of commerce from me because of the pricing of OEM ink. I would have been more willing to buy ink supplies from them if their pricing had not been such a blatant rip off. |

I've had to buy a replacement of the waste toner bin for a Brother laser printer, but never heard of such a thing for any other printer, to be honest. |

After you use the printer for enough time you do have to change the waste bin. At least, that is what they do here in PerĂº (here we usually try to fix everything and not throwing it away). Actually, what they do is drain it and clean it out. This can be done a couple of times, after that you have to thow the printer away. That is because the bin has something in it like a sponge, and the ink starts to get stiff and the sponge no longer absorbs the ink. I have an Epson printer. |

Too bad they didn't go into the refilling of OEM cartridges and after market cartridges. Would also have been nice to see a comparison of ink jets and laser printers. |

They do go into the comparison of inkjets and lasers in their buying tips, but that's only viewable by members, I believe. Good point about remanufactured options. It's probably tough for them to review or say that much about them, though, since there are so many little shops doing it and little standardization in that industry, from what I understand. |

Ink isn't that cheap... I used to make the stuff, we sold it for about $5000, a gallon. Yes, that was highway robbery. But if you only sell a couple a month, you have to charge a lot. Most printers don't use that much ink because the stuff really is spread thin. Think about how many gallons a month your current employer would have to sell just to break even. Its a lot. |
