I have been asked to run an [Extreme] Ghostbusters International game for some folks.... A friend picked up the DVDs in England, and her kids love the silly show - so, I am watching the DVDs, one at a time, and soon.... The Auld Grump |

Watched the first episode of Extreme Ghostbusters.... I had to use my roommie's non-regional DVD player, the player on my computer does not like Region 2 DVDs.... The animation itself is pretty bad - but the plot... did not suck. First episode is in two parts, basically how 'ghosts' come back into the setting. The term 'ghosts' is used pretty loosely, being used to describe a critter that is a heck of a lot closer to demon even in the first episode. I have some ideas for an opening scenario... but it needs work. Boston is the setting that I am going with. First 'Ghost'... a haunted painting. The PCs will have to go into the painting to do anything about the ghost. The painting - a variant on Turner's Slave Ship: Any other ideas out there? The Auld Grump |

West End Games did a Ghostbusters game back in the 80s I think? Very cartoony, but I seem to remember the background stuff was actually quite good. I seem to remember that the Cthulhu Mythos was part of the background, so there's all the CoC background, just "levelled" to allow the busters to fight it!

Play it straight, and the laughs will come anyway! Most of the humour in the films was in the dialogue anyway, with the possible exception of the end level bad guy in the 1st one... And it's nice to see that I do follow a set of rules when I GM! Universal How Much works for any actual system I've found...

The local franchise is now titled 'Ghostbusters: New England or GBNE There are a few traditional Maine Ghost Stories that I can use. I am thinking about one of the Fire Ships to start with.... The Auld Grump |

A complete change of the first scenario - the new first mission is taking back the old GBI: Boston. Built in a disused portal to the Tremont St. Subway station, and the long abandoned Boylston tunnel. The containment grid has just been disconnected - the old GBI:B was stealing power from the subway.... and the leech has been found. Any ideas for Boston style ghosts to set free to rampage near Park Street and Adams Square? One certainty - an electric 'ghost', sprung when the power was cut.... The Auld Grump |

Urgh.... The game was supposed to go from 1 - 5, with four players ages 10 - 13. The game went from 1 - 9:30, with four players from age 10 - 13 and three players from age 25 - 35.... The parents wanted to be part of their kids first game. Two of the kids' first game. Those two kids are THIRD GENERATION GAMERS! Their parents learned roleplaying games from THEIR parents. Gods above and below... three generations.... So... I had the parents create characters, then had them drop one from either Muscle or Moves and added to either Brains or Cool - and to take an 'entertaining disability'. One gotten in the field, when THEY were the Ghostbusters of GBI: Boston. The parents spent just as much time running around and shooting things with their proton packs as the kids. With one long session taking the place of two shorter sessions. Splitting it into two campaigns, trading off weeks - the grownups and the kids - with a session or two a month that has both groups. One of those is going to be spent watching RIPD... high camp, and ghostbusting, from the other side. Maybe a game after, maybe not. Plotlines.... Secret Societies - Boston and its surrounds are rife with them. Including at least one rival organization - The Society for the Preservation of Spirits (actually a cover for major bad guys - lead by Ezekial Mather. Cursed and fallen Puritans, trying to bring the End Time.) Adventures in the planning stages... It Happened in Danvers - you know, the place where Salem Village really was? Visit to an Unnamed Town - it does have a name, but all signposts have been taken down, but it can be found by taking the wrong fork on the Aylesbury Pike, just beyond Dean's Corner, where the hills rise wild; it used to be known as Dunwich.... Crossing the beams weakens the walls between the worlds, and Yog Sothoth is waiting for just such a chance.... Lost in Art will be one of the grown up games, taking place in the early nineties. That is the one with Turner's Slave Ship. The Soldier's Rest - a false alarm at a pub. By the time the PCs get there the patrons don't WANT the ghosts to go. The patrons, the ghosts, and the bartender are all veterans.... The Auld Grump |

At this point there are no minis in use - at some point I do intend to build GBI:Boston's head quarters, using Gothic Realms, Streets of Mayhem, and Mayhem Rail, but minis for young ghostbusters... few and far between. That said, there is a DDM figure for a 'Blackroot Treant' that makes me think Ghostbusters every time I see it - Rather odd, because I otherwise do not much like that figure. *** Tying my steampunk and Ghostbusters games together... does anybody think that the name Glastyg Wickerman might give too much away? Or a commons named Wickerman Park, with a large round paved area, used for a huge Christmas tree and an equally huge bonfires on Boxing Day... and for another fire on a certain night of the year.... Next crossover game is next week, then I am going to shelve gaming for a few weeks in preparation for the retreat. The crossover between the kids and the parents is going to be a Parapsychology Seminar in Edo. There will be giant rubber-suit style monsters. I... expect a lot of property damage. The Auld Grump |
