WB purchases D&D movie rights: want to turn into next Potter franchise? Just caught a article at Comicbookmovies.com which claims jeremy lions is involved as well as some familiar screenwriters. Interesting... god only know theres no where to go but up? |

Never, ever say that. There is always down. Always. (Don't believe me? Look up the Dragonlance movie... it makes D&D the movie look good!) Irons was in the first movie as well, I believe - he is not a cure for the bad movie blues. The Auld Grump, I won't say that my hopes are low... more like completely nonexistent. |

I'm scared. Every time they have tried to make a movie and branded it with "Dungeons and Dragons" it's been horrid. Yes there is a lot of room for improvement, but there is also a lot of room to go down. |

I'm not optimistic about this. Maybe, just maybe, with the era of good fantasy out there - we'll get something that doesn't completely suck. |

WB is coming out with 2 more Hobbit movies, Man of Steel, 300, Pacific rim, amongst others in the next year, so I am hoping they keep up the high expirations from their products. If this movie is made it will be the most public exposure RPGs have seen in decades. |

They should do what WOTC are doing and consult with hardened D&D players to get the best results. |

You guys know there's a third D&D movie, right? Here's the weird thing: it has actual D&D stuff in it... |

My guess is that Warner Bros will put the SYFY-staight to DvD movies in the rear view mirror. This is the type of property the gets the franchise treatment. So I am hoping for 3 movies story arc, with a strong ensemble cast (D&D Luke Laia Han Chewie) that "levels up" as they go. Also the "icons" of D&D will have a strong presence. (fingers crossed) These things tend to de-rail fast, so lets hope we'll be finding mini's in our kids meal soon. oh crap I said "soon" uh-oh. wrong place to say that.... ![]() |

Midnight Chronicles, based on the Fantasy Flight D20 setting, was not that bad.... But, really... The Gamers is the best one out there.... The Auld Grump, also The Gamers: Dorkness Rising and The Gamers: The Hands of Fate (now in production!).... |

Don't forget JourneyQuest and JourneyQuest 2 (and, more likely than not, JourneyQuest 3 sometime next year). |

I hope they place it in a specific world, and do not do the "transported to another universe thing" that ruined a lot of movies. They would do good to hit their core audiences with a trio of movies involving; the main story, then perhaps the underdark, and finally the outer planes. Not centralized per say, but inclusive - as long as it tells a good story. |

How awesome would it be if this was on the scale of LotR or something? On the other hand, how awful would this was on the scale of the other D&D movies or something? I will try my best ignore it until it comes out in hopes of that making it have a better chance of success... |

Speaking of Vin Diesel, want to experience something funny? Listen to an interview with Vin Diesel with your eyes closed. Just listen to that voice without seeing his face. Is it just me or does he sound like the most mild-mannered guy around? His voice just sounds sooo much different than the persona that he normally comes across with. |

I was really ticked in the first one when the thief took the fighter in head to head frontal combat. If I recall 2e was out then, and we all know how great a thief would do in that situation. They need to hire the guys who wrote Dorkness Rising to put the right levity in it. I know I'm not the only player who's been revived in battle only to get another chest full of arrows. A D&D movie needs a few (only a few) moments like that. Game of Thrones has done it... End of Season 2, the Dwarf is standing there with his troops when a wall of enemy soldiers charges his way... "F**k me!" |
