I think that most folks have known that for years. Sorry to see that the new policy is already leading to store closures. ![]() The answer, as far as I can see, is just not to buy GW. (But then I love Kings of War - inexpensive miniatures, better rules, no rules arguments... What's not to love?) The Auld Grump |

I played Warhammer for many years using non-GW figures. While I currently have way too many GW figures, I refuse to buy more. I'm selling off many of the armies I have. I just refuse to buy into it anymore. There are way too many miniature companies out there producing great miniatures, and great miniature games. I understand that being in business means making money. There are a ton of ways GW could do that BY promoting the hobby, but they would rather just sell product, and find ways to make product cheaper and sell it for more. I all but GAVE an entire 2500+ point fully painted army with many extremely rare and valuable figures to a 14 year old kid who wanted to get into the game but didn't have the money to do so. Just to get him into the game. In retrospect, I should have encouraged him to look into other options. LOL. |

That's unfortunate. Thirty years and they (GW) just don't learn how to play nice with anyone. I bought some Warpath figures, Forge Fathers, from the sale. ![]() |

I am allergic to GW. I am also too broke and will always be too broke to pay their ridiculous costs. |

The new Warpath 2.0 rules just came out (February?) and they look pretty good, very playable, no tables, a few modifiers, activation system based, decent army lists, and free. ![]() I'm a 40k player from day one, so are my brothers, and buying more GW minis at ever steeper prices has no appeal. Yesterday my purchase of a decent Mantic Forge Father core force (plastic) was the same price as a GW Eldar Dreadnaught (plastic). Combining the new FF troops with the old GW Squats will give my brother a respectable army. ![]() I have to wonder who still works in the GW design department as I see so many of their previous designers (like Alessio Cavatore, Rick Priestly, Andy Chambers, etc. ) all creating products elsewhere. I stopped by the game store that I used to work at to look at the new 40k 6th ed. rules, only $75, by Grabthar's hammer, what a bargain. The book is huge and heavy too, I can't imagine trying to pack it around to games, fortunately a store clerk told me that, "Don't worry, only half of that book is the rules, the rest is all art and photos of minis." I told him that's not actually a good selling point. So...pass... ![]() I taught my son how to play using the 4th ed. rules and amazingly enough the table didn't burst into flame at my sacrilege. ![]() |

Well, you could just Ebay the mini rulebook for like $15 and play 6th. I rather like it more than 4th or 5th. |

I bought the Warpath starter set last year but havent gotten around to trying it out. I'll have to download the new rulebook and give it a try. I love the Forge Fathers and I love their prices compared to G.W. I have all of the Dwarf Kings Hold stuff and its a ton of fun to play, and I have 2 smallish Kings of War armies, so I'll definitely break out Warpath. I was playing Lotr, but when the Hobbit came out and they released the new stuff I just about had a stroke. I can't stomach that much for a game that takes a sizeable amount of figures to play. |

For what you get in the box, its an actual great deal if you play chaos or DA. I mean for the DA players you get 5 termies, a 3 man bike a tac squad and two characters. That's more than $100 retail alone. I actually got three of them. I traded all but one set of the chaos off to other people for their DA, so I actually have like 5 sets of the DA and I plan on using the chaos that I kept for Necromunda. The cultists are perfect for a Necromunda gang between one squad with autoguns and the other with CC weapons, as well as a heavy stubber and flamer. Chosen would be good for spyrers or special mission nasties and the hellbrute is just for a special mission I have. |

Thanks. I had been told that http://www.yakromunda.com/ was a great site for Necromunda, but the whole site requires registration to view anything, and they have closed all registration. Its really stupid. |

Deathsquads requires you register for the forum to DL the rules, but I think all the other threads are public. I'm not sure why they require it. |

Holy... Fifty bucks for the Codex? Danged thing must be full-color hard-cover and about triple the stats from the previous codex. While the rest isn't too terribly bad for GW (though $20 for a single? Seems a bit stiff), and right in line with some of the other stuff, that's definitely almost double what I'd be willing to lay out for a codex (which, I think, should either be so awesome as to be the holy grail of faction books, and be usable for about a decade - which is entirely outside GWs business model...) |

Not anymore... All the codexes this edition have been 49.50. As to their business model, the old ways are pretty much done. They have released a codex every other month since 6th began, and on alternating months have released a fantasy army book. Their current schedule has at least 2 more codexes after tau, making the old model of 3-4 a year obsolete. The official word is that 6th is intended to be a long lasting ruleset and all the armies are to be updated in the next 3 years. The books are completely full color, as well as hardbacks. While I don't think they are worth $50, if you play the game, you need the rules. As to the models, I am thankful I don't have to buy very much anymore as I have tons of models already. |

The high prices are good incentive for me to finish painting the mountain of minis that I already have. ![]() I'd once thought about building a Tau army, I think I'll wait for ebay dumps instead of paying retail. I already have Eldar, Orks, Tyranid, Imperial Guard, and Chaos marine armies, mostly painted. Pictures of painted minis I can get off the net, don't need no codex to tell me how to paint. ![]() |
