So... I'm hoping my players don't read this forum, but if they do, I suppose the following is not too much of a spoiler. (Oh, who am I kidding? I can barely get my players to read the links I send them and tell them to read.) I run an odd campaign set in a mostly Wild West setting that also has sci-fi and magic elements. (, .) Very soon, my players are going to find themselves on a riverboat journey. (Don't know what a riverboat looks like? Try .) The boat will likely be attacked (who knew there would be conflict in an RPG?) so it would be nice if we could play it out with WWG stuff. I'm at a bit of a loss for what to use as a boat. The Maiden, gorgeous as it is, isn't really what I'm looking for at this juncture. If you have suggestions for alternatives, or TLX stuff I could use to make a boat, that would be great. River tile suggestions are of lesser importance but also useful. Secondly, once the riverboat journey is done, they'll be on a train journey. Now I know this may blow your mind, but there just might be some conflict on the train. I see there are some train track tiles in DeadFall: Streets of Blood, but really that's the least of my worries. Where's the train? I need a train! Yeah I know there's a modern train in one of the Mayhem sets, and as my setting has sci-fi elements I'm sure I could make do, but a Western-style train would really be much more what I'm going for. Again, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Hmm... *tumbleweed rolls by* Anyway, according to GURPS Old West, a typical paddlesteamer is about 250' long by 40' wide, which will work out to roughly 8x6" TLX tiles long and 1x6" + 1x3" TLX tiles wide. I'd say this is doable with mostly TLX and possibly some photoshop kitbashing. I'm having problems figuring out what textures/elements to use for construction though. See this example image: I'm having trouble finding nice whitish textures for the boat (should I just use plain white cardstock with felt-pen highlights?), and I'm not sure where to look for appropriate arches and railings to make up the sides. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

If I were going to do this, I would likely just load white paper (with just reg marks) into the Robocutter and have it cut one of the many arched sets (Himel, dwarven, Obbilet) arch cut files, as this would produce the many arches needed. Balconies with posts could also be from any set. Same with the Posts. Yeah white paper using Robocutter files would be quick and easy. Then just put it on the Deadfall floors for the wooden floors of the boat. Wouldn't bother with like the maiden hull as this is pretty flat flush against the water. |

How about you load the Robo software (it is free) and then print the cut lines onto white paper? Then you at least have the outlines to cut by hand. |

You're overthinking this - is a riverboat - there's nothing belowdecks. It is essentially a WYSIWYG boat. Look at the picture - you have a large white victorian building on a raft, with steam power. Shellendrak Manor, with a steam engine and a paddlewheel. Porches around the outside of each deck. |

Didn't the old pubs interiors have 1/2 wood, 1/2 plaster? I'm sure one of the TLX ones has that as well, but I can't think which. But that, (with maybe a little photoshopping to remove some of the plaster cracks) is the look most of the riverboat interiors seem to have (at least after my 2 minute google! ![]() |

the triple arch 6" wall in Himmelvale strikes me as a great place to start for the decorative arches. Maybe start with the Deadfall Buildings, and brighten them up so they aren't brown, but rather white. If you leave the peeling paint texture, it will make it look weathered, which may be kind of cool. |

Having reviewed the options, I think Oubliette is probably what I'm looking for. The arches there would be just about perfect if white. http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/in ... product=10 Now I think I'll still have to fudge the dimensions because the thing just won't be big enough to have slightly smaller decks as it goes up; all the decks will have to be basically the same size. Still though, feeling pretty positive. As for the wheel itself, I might have to just fabricate something... or is there a set with a waterwheel I could double up at the back of the boat? |

If I might suggest - a lot of sidewheelers have guards (lovely arched boxes) that cover the paddlewheels. Sternwheelers, sadly, not so much. |

@canadrian: there is a mill waterwheel in the old WWG VillageWorks set, still available over at the Paizo.com site |

I can see having the same size decks. I don't think that will be an issue. I may see what I can put together in TLXP for the fun of it. |

Ok, finally getting things rolling on this. Started with taking the Queen of the Mississippi plans linked above and putting them on a grid. It's scaled up relative to typical Old West steamboats, but scaled down from the actual Queen of the Mississippi. As my campaign is a hybrid of western/sci-fi, I'm sure there will be no issues with the engineering of a larger steamboat. ![]() [phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file /includes/functions_reimg.php on Oh. All the balconies I can find are 1.5". Ok, I guess the full width of the boat will be 12", not 11". Pretty sure I'll have to make a custom base due to the placement of the TLX anchors for the rest of the boat. At least I can make it sectional though. |

There's some great stuff in that Mark Twain model, including the working rotating paddelwheel. Sadly it's not designed to come apart, and the flickr album of the assembled model is covered in annoying distracting watermarks. Also they must have used thin paper and crummy wet glue for construction; everything is wibbly-wobbly as heck. Still though, I'm thinking I may be able to cannibalize some parts and frankenstein something together. Sadly I won't be able to do a proper kitbash though, due to the license restrictions. |
