How would you guys suggest combining the two? Players are likely to hit 50,000gp by L10 and 100,000+ by 12. Obviously I'm not going to print out that much coinage. But it would be nice to give something tangible to the game. What would you suggest? |

simple! instead of using different coins for racial purposes use them as more valuable coins! You have like 10 kind of coins not counting ingots 1copper 10 copper =1 silver 10 silver = 1 gold 10 gold 100 gold = 1 platinum 10 platinum 100 platinum = astral diamond 10 ad 100 ad 1000 ad |

I encourage people to 'store' large amounts of cash as gems, jewelry and objects d'art. I don't go by the "Sell at 50% of retail price" for these, which allows for easy carrying of large amounts of cash. "Hmm, 5000gp? I'm not used to carrying around 500 lbs of coin, would you accept this large, flawless ruby?" |

If you want tangible Flawless rubies and such... Hit your local craft stores and Dollar stores. You can get loads of toy jewelry (like rings, necklaces) etc at the dollar store. If you get different "metals" like gold and silver, or with different gems in them. they can be 1K for a silver ring, 10K for a gold ring. Then in many Michaels they have the little accent stones that go for decorating stuff, and I have seen "gems" in various colors and sizes. Between them you got's tangible handouts... |

I like all the ideas and will incorporate them. I was leery of making other race money higher denominations, but I can probably finesse that. The jewels will go nicely with the equipment card set I'm making (sorry, have to keep it to myself since I'm ripping off all kinds of art and photoshopping... will show pictures though). |

I've been buying these pirate coins from I-Party, they come 72 to the bag for about $6.00. I'm going to paint them for different coin types, platinum, silver, copper, etc. I also picked up some custom rubber stamps in the various Roman numerals. I'll stamp some of the coins with them to come up with 5, 10 etc values. Then when I give my players money, they'll be able to keep track of it with those coins. I also allow the players to get 'promissory notes' from merchants to carry large sums of money. |

Sadly I don't live in a large city. I tried Michaels but was turned off by potentially paying $5 for 15 very small gem beads with holes in them. The good looking ones were flat rhinestone types with adhesive on the back. I'll try WalMart after a bit. Incidentally I tried figuring out some nominal exchange rates and values and came up with the following: Talons: coppers - 1 cp silvers - 1 sp (10 cp) talons - 50 sp crowns - 1 gp (10 sp) bars - 200 gp bigger bars - 500 gp Axeheads: coppers - 10 cp silvers - 10 sp golds - 10 gp platinums - 50 gp Crenn Flowers: silvers - 20 gp golds - 100 gp I downgraded Talons because they're not as familiar and obvious as the crowns' equivalency to gp. I gave Axeheads a greater value due to the craftsmanship. The flowers naturally have a high value because of both craftsmanship and the set jewels. I might even increase them, though it doesn't seem quite right to have a really high valued "coin" be divisible as a piece of eight... which is a really cool mechanic. Can someone explain the bright red and white marks on some of the axeheads? They look like blood but not quite. |

A bit of a followup. I had planned to create small item cards that would fit into a standard Euro small-card slip cover (68x45mm). I made enough for initial player equipment and planned to make more depending on treasure and enemy equipment particular to a play session and quickly realized the equipment would be coming so fast and furious I'd not have enough time to make more. Sticking with writing items on paper is obviously the most time favorable, but is there a possible compromise that could, as with the coins, create something tangible for the players? |
