You may want to dig around to see if you can find the old Intellig model by John Dennet - Mr. Dennet was one of the sculptors for Grenadier, once upon a time - he did their old Cthulhu line, as well as many of their dragons. Mr. Dennett does plan to revisit the Mythos again. Right now eBay has one (1) for sale - $22.00 plus postage and handling. The Auld Grump *EDIT* Then there is the Sota Toys Cthulhu - Hey mon, I got de munchies.... |

The Sota Toys one is getting a little furhter away from the bulky human silhouette plus face tentacles that seems to have become the default. Still reproduced the human based anatomy for the lower body. Looking at Cthulhu images over time the progression seems to have been along the lines of: - intelligent eyes in mass tentacles on indistinct bulk - head becomes more distinct and add reaching claws, lower bulk still hidden - claws now attached to arms which become progressively more humanoid, lower bulk still hidden - Cthulhu seen from distance stalking the land, body shape more humanoid, but lower body still indistinct - Lower body acquires humanoid leg structure No single step seems to have produced this, more a steady progression from alien to anthropomorphic. Shame that the sculptors haven't realised that their Cthulhu will look much more intimidating if it has a few human like features on a distinctly alien body. |

Thanks for that Grump, wasn't aware of that one. I take it all back - it appears Cthulhu is just an oversized mindflayer with claws after all. Personally, I still prefer the models that convey the sense of brooding intelligent alien bulk over the ones that look like a clawed giant in a tentacle mask. So far the Sota Toys model is the one that does that best for me. |

Yeah, hear yah. The original sketch for the Reaper Bones 'Thulhu came close. The actual sculpt... not quite so much. The folks at Reaper very nicely allowed me to swap it out for another Nethermaul. I would have kept the 'Thulhu, but one of the forum goers started whining about 'trolls' and 'entitlement' - so I had it changed, based on the fact that one forumite was a jerk.... (NOT one of the Reaper staff, let me hasten to insert. And the fellow did apologize after the Reaper folks let it be known that they were not happy with that.) The Intellig Cthulhu is something that I wish that I had gotten in 1994. Only a few thousand were made. The Auld Grump |

Hmmm, the Reaper Bones Cthulhu is visible from a different angle here - Better than I thought, at least. ![]() The Auld Grump |
