Can any of you folks recommend where to buy miniature bases from? I'm looking for flat, unslotted, round, black, 2 inch (or 50mm) bases for gluing some minis to them. I probably will want to get some 3 inch (or 75mm) at some point, too. It's tough to do searches online for that 'cuz google sees those as rather generic search terms. I've found a good selection at Litko (http://www.litko.net/categories/Miniatu ... 6-Bottoms/) and have even placed an order, but they're awfully slow to produce and ship them. (granted, I put some custom items in my order, so that is probably slowing them down) They only have bases in different thicknesses of plywood. I was hoping for other materials, too. I found another site that has them in acrylic in different colors, but have yet to order any: http://advanceddeployment.bigcartel.com ... ound-bases Any help would be appreciated! |

I have started getting 1/8" thick Masonite bases from - a quart of bases costs $10, plus postage. ![]() They are willing to do custom sizes, at a reasonable price. (I wish that I had known that about a year ago - I bought a bunch from - good bases, but the order got hung up in customs... took two months to reach me.) The Auld Grump |

Also highly recommend Home Depot. Washers are nice and heavy for plastic minis! |

I have been debating working on basing some minis. It seems like a decent chunk more work (both the process of doing it and the gathering of materials for it). Thanks for the tips on where to look though, guys. |

I base all my minis on washers, with glued-on sand, and some putty. This gives me an irregular, low-key surface. Painted grey, washed black and dry-brushed in a lighter grey, it's a passable concrete/urban lookalike. Plus, it's damn cheap. imo, plastic bases are usually overpriced. |

This thread has reaffirmed my resolution to paint at least one miniature for myself each week for this year. The Auld Grump |

Rock on. That's my goal as well. ![]() I actually painted two this weekend - both Terminators for a new Dark Angel army, one normal and one Sergeant. Actually reminds me I need to finish the Sgt. |

I bought a few packs of bases from http://www.frpgames.com about a year ago. I still have a bunch left. For me, the big questions is square, round, or round with lip. I recently bought some Reaper Bones plastic minis from Auggies (http://www.auggiesgamesonline.com/Reaper_c_282.html) and painted them over the Holiday break. I used the Warhammer Fantasy-style square bases. 25mm square bases are $8.00 for 80. These guys are roaming around a WIP Thoumont's town. SB |

you can get really creative with bases. Washers are a great way to start. Sand and ripped apart cork make good detritus. I've taken to smearing a small amount of spackle or dry wall compound on the base, and then adding some small HO scale train ballast (I got a half pound cheap through the swap sheet like 20 years ago and haven't used half. I've painted 4 40K armies, 2 WHFB armies, and countless RP figures). Grump...the clumped static grass!!! I am going to have to check that out!!! |

This stuff makes great basing material. Basically sand mixed with an acrylic glue compound. http://www.liquitex.com/ceramicstucco/ |

Hey there, new here and was myself asking about that same topic a few months ago if you're still interested, i've been buying my mini bases from here, usually for my PF minis but i'm sure you could use them for 40k as well. The bases I got were textured and for a pretty decent price. The guy who makes these bases actually just started a coop page with his friends to start bringing in a variety, least that's what he told me when I asked about his old page going into the abyss. |
