I just linked the pictures from the Store on another web forum.... By the time I was done posting I was overcome by the need to build yet another Cathedrae Noctis building. ![]() It brought back fond memories of being trounced by one of my students in Mordheim. Of running a short lived Diablo 2 campaign ( the one from WotC, way back when). Of making builds, playing with them, then giving them away. All of them.... ![]() So, back to the printer, and then to the cutting board. The Auld Grump, a ruined version, I think, unless there is something in Curse of the Crimson Throne.... |

Cathedrae Noctis is one of my favourite sets. Superb textures and a really grand sense of scale. |

Heh, one of my players took a look at it and immediately jumped to the conclusion that I was going back to running the Steampunk Gargoyles campaign. Then she roped another player into helping her convince me that it was a good idea. I am using the mostly unfinished Cathedrae in my Christmas Hack 'n' Slash for this year. Jen decided that this meant that I wanted to start another Gargoyles campaign, she convinced Megan, and I... decided that they were right all along. (I can't just blame hormones for that - I had started building another cathedral, and I had let Jen see it. And Jen still has that poster from Gathering of the Gargoyles on her wall.... I won't even need to finish building the new Cathedral unless I want to - Jen still has the one I built for the last campaign - her miniature is still displayed on its roof. The only surprise was that she recruited Megan to help convince me. Making some changes: Each Gargoyle has two magic powers this time around. One major, one minor. Gargoyles are turned to 'stone' (see below) by sunlight - so a very cloudy day or staying inside can protect them from losing the time. They no longer turn to stone at dawn. Each Gargoyle will choose a Material (Wood, Granite, Marble, Copper/Bronze, or Lead.) Each Gargoyle will choose a Form (Grotesque, Eidolon, or Effigy - basically Monstrous, Angelic, or something that has a chance of passing for Human.) There will likely be a Feat for choosing Size - otherwise they are Medium. (Spycraft is basically a D20 system - the scales are taken from there.) Likewise, a Feat for a radically nonhuman shape (such as a snake for the lower body.) Grotesque and Eidolon have wings and can fly (badly). Improved flight is a minor power - Effigies have no wings and cannot take that power. Effigy has a +2 bonus to another ability score, and can pass for human under some conditions. (Passing for Human is a minor power, available only to Effigies - otherwise they need to make a Blend check, with a penalty.) They can keep awake for a number of minutes equal to their Con in daylight. One of the lesser Magic powers allows them to remain conscious but immobile during the day. Each Gargoyle has a besetting Sin - each of their Sins is key to a lost memory. Finding that secret is the Key to escape from Purgatory - either to become Mortal once more or to find their way to the Heavens. They have been sent back to Earth, both with a mission and a chance for Redemption. (Each starts with a secret Subplot, based on the Sin that they chose.) The sad thing is that I realized after agreeing to run Gargoyles again that I already had the rules fleshed out in my head - on some level I had already been planning on it. The setting is once again Blythe (Blight), most likely at the same Cathedral, in 1899 this time, rather than 1888. I seem to be resurrecting finished campaigns lately - first Scoobypunk, now Steampunk Gargoyles. The Auld Grump |

I would love for the conversion that was being worked on to be revisited. A TLX version would be a great asset in my collection. I really wish I had the room to build the non-tlx version... |
