Having seen the movie yesterday, I wanted to go gander at the GW LOTR stuff and see how much Hobbit stuff was already there. Well, they made a whole new game for it. BEAUTIFUL stuff. Then I saw the price tag. $125 for the boxed set. $85 for the book. No. Chance. In. Hell. Really sad, though, that there is NO WAY I can justify those prices. The boxed set is AMAZING looking. |

Yeah, I was thinking this is something I could do with the boys, but when I saw the price point I had the same reaction. That and the goblins may be del Toro designs(?), but the translation into plastic is poo. I'll just stick with Super Dungeon Explorer & Decent! ![]() |

Yeah GW is raping people. This is why I have stopped playing their games. I am slowly converting all GW army stats to Savage Worlds miniature rules. The figures are nice, but you can do just as good with Reaper mini's. I am sure there are others out there as well. |

I went looking at some GW stuff over the weekend as an xmas present from my daughter to me - thought I'd get something I'd never actually buy for myself. As cool and gorgeous as I thought the Hobbit stuff was, even I couldn't pull the trigger on that. Holy cow. I did end up getting this: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... rod1060246 - but I think it will mesh well with some Dredd stuff I'm putting together, to go with Necroblock/Mayhem Swift Scenics, Mayhem/Titan Streets and a PodTel or two. |

About five years or more ago I bought maybe a hundred or more of their LotR minis. They were all on sale. About 70% off. Even at that price I was not sure I didn't get ripped off. They paint up well enough. Prime, and a couple of colors dry brushed on. But the quality of the mini was such that there was no way to paint any better than tabletop quality. And, since I generally only paint to tabletop quality I felt ok about the purchases. This weekend I took a glance at the boxes of their LotR stuff on store shelves. No way was I going to make any purchase there. Metal minis cost about the same and the quality is so much better. Have never bought any of their 40k stuff, I expect that stuff is much finer for as many people who play. |
