I was home with one of my sons today (he is sick) and we were watching the old movie and I realized the antagonist (Kubla Kraus) was a steampunk! LOL, well, maybe... He had an iron, steam-powered horse. His butler was a clockwork machination. His Soldiers and right-hand man were all mechanical. It was interesting noting that now, since I have not seen it in about 20 years. Any other hidden steam out there people seeing? |

Not certain if this counts, but over on Etsy has a series of - steampunk style. My favorite is Thor - Not something that I would buy for myself, but definitely something that I might lay heavy hints for as a Christmas present. (Like, umm, right now... Some of my players have wandered by here on occasion..... ![]() One of the things that I really like about this print is that Thor comes across as a working class Joe. Truer to the way he was often depicted in Norse mythology than in the Marvel treatments. Kali and Athena have also had the steampunk treatment - makes me wonder what Vulcan or Mars might look like.... The Auld Grump |

Thor is the best of the three offered, by far, if looking for a steampunk theme. The other two are labeled as such, but I am really not seeing it. |

Yep, I have bought a few paper model books from Dover. Also bought some other types of books there. ![]() |

I am watching the SyFy channel 20-year anniversary special, and it is pretty fun. Apparently, the dominant theme of Warehouse 13 is steampunk? That is what they are saying. I have only seen a couple of the first episodes, but this may bring me back to it. Anyone in the know? |

My Christmas presents from my players included a steampunk book this year. I just got done with it. Not finished, mind, just done. Oh dear gods, above and below - Flaming Zeppelins is quite possibly the worst book that I have read in years. ![]() I got as far as the slash fiction for the Tin Man of Oz and the Frankenstein Monster, then gave up. Dear gods.... The other present was a jingle hat - for when I am busy being one of Santa's elves.... I.e. when I am painting miniatures in public places - while I was painting at Burger King a mother explained to her young daughter that I was one of Santa's elves, painting Christmas presents. (As it happens, I was painting Christmas presents at the time - so I couldn't complain, eh?) Then she hired me to paint a princess, a 'heroic' goblin, and a troll in a diorama for her daughter. The best part was when she told her daughter not to stare too much - that Santa's elves don't like it when people watch them at work. After she had hired me to paint her daughters toys where she could see me.... A devious woman, that. ![]() The Auld Grump |
